With some other people, I own a share of an organisation. I recently discovered that one of the managers fiddled £45,000 on her expenses. She's offered to pay £5,000 back. Her basic salary is £141,000 but she gets perks on top.

I say we should sack her at once, but her colleagues say that she's apologised so we should forget about it.

I don't think the other owners are too pleased either. Should we do what the other managers say, or are they just saying that because some of them have been fiddling their expenses as well?

Yes I would sack her immediately - it's gross misconduct - and I'd also involve the Police, as she has committed theft.

I'm just one among many. There are quite a lot of us, but we do own the business and we employ the managers.

I think it's disgusting and she should be fired immediately. Think of all the lesser employees ... Who would be fired and convicted if they stole a pack of crisps from the canteen or £20 from a till because their basic salaries are £12,000 or £13,000 and they can't afford any lunch. You wouldn't let them off, or if you did you'd not do it a second time. Pack of crisps > £45,000 ..... Sack her.

I'm afraid you have to blame the owners for not taking enough notice. It's not the first time it's happened by a long shot, your employees clearly feel they are above the law.

It's absolutely outrageous. And politicians wonder why us proles are so cynical about them. As many many commentators have remarked, if this person had been some poor devil trying to make a few quid by scamming the DHSS (or whatever the hell it's called these days), she'd have been hauled up before the courts and maybe even got a prison sentence.
