When it just comes out exactly the same as it just went in?

Do our bodies actually derive any nutritional benefit from it?

DS loves the stuff.

Yabu it's deliciousSmile

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 04/04/2014 11:02

I know....I chew mine too so how come it looks the same, lol.

I dunno, probably no nutritional value as my DS loves it too (only Green Giant though, he rejected the Aldi one) and he only seems to like stuff thats crap, lol.

Lilaclily · 04/04/2014 11:02

Same with linseed

It's fibre to help everything else move through

samandi · 04/04/2014 11:02

It's delicious! And yes you do derive some nutritional benefit from it, it's a good dietary fibre :-)

Branleuse · 04/04/2014 11:02

roughage. vitamins, energy

TruffleOil · 04/04/2014 11:04

Well, it's starchy and not a super-food. So I tend not to serve a lot of it. My kids love it too. It has a lot of vitamin C, and fiber. But it can't compare to a green vegetable.

Imnotmadeofeyes · 04/04/2014 11:05

I read it's only the skin that isn't digestible so what you think is a compete kernel is actually a corn skin filled with, well, shit. Mmmmmm.

TruffleOil · 04/04/2014 11:05

^God that sounded twatty. I don't serve only super-foods (!), but I try serve healthier vegetables.

Filimou · 04/04/2014 11:06

I'd heard that too imnot

Littlegreyauditor · 04/04/2014 11:06

It helps keep your digestive system working correctly. High amounts of roughage help prevent diverticulitis, colon cancer etc.

Also, it's yummy.

BumPotato · 04/04/2014 11:07

It's nice to know what the little ones have been having at nursery/school Grin

I could happily eat it straight from the tin with a spoon, yum.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 04/04/2014 11:08

I'm very fond of sweetcorn... have never seen it 'coming out looking the same as it went in'... possibly because I don't look but I also chew my food, even little stuff. Confused

Imnotmadeofeyes · 04/04/2014 11:10

Wonder if anyone is willing to check in the interest science filimou Grin

Sparrowlegs248 · 04/04/2014 11:12

Glad you clarified that truffle!!! Was just wondering who on earth serves only superfoods.

I love sweetcorn. Can't tell the difference between aldi and green giant. Sometimes its visible in poop, others not....

TruffleOil · 04/04/2014 11:18

Yes, bear in mind I just sent the kiddos off to football with monster munch.

Point being, I try to pick super-healthy vegetables and fruits because the food I serve tends to be less than perfect - I make a lot of curries, red meat, probably fatty. I love to cook naughty food.

smokeandglitter · 04/04/2014 11:19

Blend it with a bit of light Marge (or low fat philly) and cooked red pepper. Mmmmm. Lots of point in that. It's been a hit at dinner parties.

Enb76 · 04/04/2014 11:20

tinned sweetcorn is the food of the devil - corn on the cob is a different story and is the food of the angels.

SarahThane · 04/04/2014 11:21

But that's why it's fun, like with beetroot.

CoteDAzur · 04/04/2014 11:23

" it's starchy and not a super-food"

This kind of vocabulary is on everyone's lips now, as if it means something.

Everyone, please read Bad Science by Ben Goldacre.

cleofatra · 04/04/2014 11:24

I eat corn all the time and have never passed indigestion parts of it. I wonder about some people's digestive systems !

cleofatra · 04/04/2014 11:24

AngelaDaviesHair · 04/04/2014 13:29

Corn on the cob grilled or cooked on the barbecue is lovely, much better than boiled.
