To have my cracked tooth sorted under sedation?

I have a dentist phobia(a bad one).

Last time I had work done 20 or 30 years ago pre dc I fainted.Blush

Anyhow I have a sore tooth with no decay. My lovely dentist thinks it may have cracked under the filling which isn't deep. She wants to drill it out and refill it which sounds bloody awful to me.

She broached the subject of the sedation clinic(pampered princess clinic according to dp who has had root canal done normally). The thought of somebody other than my normal dentist doing it is equally scary.

I've had 2 c/s awake and countless fertility procedures including ovarian drilling and egg collection.

Sooo what to do?Would I be unreasonable to have it under sedation or would it be just as bad, wasting their time etc?

I attend a specialist sedation clinic. It's NHS and my treatment costs the same as people who don't have sedation are not wusses

I was referred to a dental hospital centre for sedation but the dentist was so fantastic (NHS) that I had complete confidence and had the work done (wisdom tooth extraction) with just the normal injection - it was pain free Smile. He then went on to treat various other dental issues for nearly two years Blush - total cost was under £100 - I must have had at least ten appointments.

I don't think we have sedation in Scotland or I would certainly go for it. I had to have a tooth removed in December and was given a prescription for Diazepan as I was so nervous about it , massive dose, reacted almost instantly ended up cracking off the pavement with a huge black eye. Do wish we had sedation here - I'd certainly pay for it.

I've just had a tooth taken out with sedation, the first time, and it was liquid diazepan - brilliant. A drip went in my arm, I said, 'when will you put the...oh I'm feeling dizzy...' literally just those words. The next thing I knew my tooth was out, I was awake and all was well. I was a bit giggly for the rest of the evening but fine in the morning.

Hi Retro, I used to work in a sedation clinic (ex-dental nurse). Basically, you're exactly the kind of patient they're intended for. It's fine, it's not wasting people's time.

I'd have someone pick you up from the clinic and look after you a bit afterwards as you may still be pretty out of it afterwards (though not in any unpleasant way, just a bit high!)

It should cost the same as having the treatment without sedation if you are an nhs patient.
