AIBU to still be so bloody cross with the school regarding accident

2months on I'm still fuming that my dd was injured at school and has been left scared for life

I feel the school delt with it terribly considering it was a head injury, when I arrived at school about 30 mins after they called me (traveling from work) I found her covered in blood coming from head, nose all down the front off her, barley responding, clearly in total shock and pain, her injuries where that bad we were transferred hospitals so a plastic surgeon could deal with the repair!

And still every time I walk into playground I see the retaining wall she fell onto and nothing as been done to stop this sort of thing happening again!

I actually could merrily trip up the head teacher so he to fell into this stupid unsafe wall

No worries thebody :)

Mintymoomoo · 01/04/2014 23:04

Mymatemax, maybe I'm wrong to call it a retaining wall, it's just very low level separating two play areas and has industrial paving slabs turned in side butted up against it! At drop off and home time it just appears to be a place for to idlers to climb over while waiting for there siblings

I'd consult a personal injury solicitors, personally. Yourchild was injured on their premises and they have done nothing to stop it happening again.

Mintymoomoo · 01/04/2014 23:07

Thanks for all the advise, I'm going to arrange to go see the head tomorrow and have a chat, and see if he can tell me where they are at and what's been done so far etc

It was an accident!! Are you expecting that public places should have no retaining walls, or steps or tables or shelves or anything with a hard edge, or that they should all be padded. It is unfortunate for your DD of course, but you can't wrap them up in cotton wool, sometimes they have to learn the hard way to look where they are going.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 01/04/2014 23:08

Whose great idea was that wall then?! YANBU to feel cross that they haven't done anything. That height of wall is ridiculous if there are small children about.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 01/04/2014 23:09

It's a school playground where children run. The wall sounds dangerous!

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 01/04/2014 23:17

Our school's playground is full of low walls and steps. It's built on a bit of a slope. They wouldn't be able to remove them. I do sympathise with the op and her poor daughter but I just think it was an accident and it could have happened anywhere. I'm sure it must be shocking to see your child covered in blood like that but it could have happened anywhere. The wall may be unnecessary but accidents happen. My dd2 broke a bone in her arm bumping into a fellow preschooler and falling over. I could hardly remove the threat of a running child.

great post joolsalli

to those saying it was just an accident it may well be the case but until/unless it's properly assessed and investigated then no one can tell if it could be prevented again.

that's not wrapping kids up in cotton wool that's commem sense.

caithlin so very upsetting isn't it.

glad you are going to act op.

thebody · 01/04/2014 23:31

Pixie learning the hard way really?

her dd has a permanent facial scar.

mine too after a criminally negligent act.

it is indeed very very hard.

Mintymoomoo · 01/04/2014 23:33

Pixiepotter no I'm not expecting public places to remove walls, steps etc but I do thing that schools should be made as safe as possible! And unnecessary low level walls in middle of a playground where children are running about daily surley isn't safe.

I'm def not one who could ever be accused of wrapping my children in cotton wall, I'm extremely laid back and easy going, and do expect that accidents happen etc it was only yesterday the school called to ask me to pick up my other dd who fell off the monkey bars and hurt her wrist, back off to A&E I went, didn't bat a eyelid or blame the school in anyway kids fall off things all the time

I'm more concerned that left how the wall is will just result in more children being hurt when they really don't need to be! And I would hate for another child to have to go through what my daughter did, we are not talking a bit of glue down A&E she had to have her face repaired by a plastic surgeon!

I don't think it was a case off not watching where she was going, she was playing it with friends, slipped (was wet day) and fell head first into wall

Talk to the head. Failing that write to the governors. If that fails write to the LEA

Shamoy · 02/04/2014 07:37

It looks by those rules that the incident only needs reporting if a fatality occurs or a child needs to taken immediately to hospital. This didn't happen in this case so they haven't reported it.
It seems to me that the child SHOULD have been sent to hospital immediately, probably in an ambulance, but wasn't. Anyone else think this looks dodgy in terms of it being not just a badly dealt with injury but actually a purposeful action to protect themselves rather than acting in the child's best interests?

Balaboosta · 02/04/2014 07:46

Forget the wall! Why the hell didn't they call an ambulance?
