To want to have sex without getting cystitis almost *every* time? Please help!

So, I've been up since 5, sat on the loo with horrendous cystitis symptoms.

This happens about 36 hours after having sex with my husband, 90% of the time.

I've had just about every test there is: dye injections, scans, long term anti biotics etc. but nothing works. I've been prone to cystitis childhood but now it only seems to flare up after sex.

Please help! I want to have sex with my husband but this is rather putting me off!!

Any tips/advice?

This was me! Now I wee straight after sex everytime and take an antibiotic too. Have been offered surgery but a severe needle phobia means it's just not an option for me. The antibiotic route has changed my life, I used to get them so bad I'd be weeing out blood shudder

or maybe a sexual health clinic.....

In my younger days, from age 13 or so, I had constant cystitis, to the point of bleeding. I was hospitalised for kidney exams, etc. etc. One day I saw that the sexual health clinic dealt with all sorts of things, so I went. They took one shallow and one deep samples from my bladder. Bingo - all sorted when they found a positive whatever in the deep sample. They cured it, and I have never had it since (50+ years).

Please go to a sexual health clinic, not your GP.

Adding this to old thread: well know London GUM clinic was very reluctant to treat me for cystitis last year. GP was only route to treatment.

I used to get it every single time I had sex, so started having a glass of cranberry juice after sex (I don't love tablets but use those on holidays). I've never once had it when I've had cranberry after.

Op, have you discovered Mannose D? It's a life changing medicine for uti sufferers.
It's in chemists, on Amazon etc.

AllFakeFurCoatAndNoSpanx · 09/09/2017 15:25

You poor thing Flowers

I used to get this. It can completely rule your life. Get yourself some D Mannose (Sweet Cures one is good) and take some an hour before sex and then again immediately afterwards. I swear by it and I'm constantly recommending it on here!

AllFakeFurCoatAndNoSpanx · 09/09/2017 15:26

Ooops old thread!

Elvisrocks · 09/09/2017 15:41

According to my friend, using condoms stopped her getting cystitis.

Lellochip · 09/09/2017 22:52

Old thread I know but in case it helps anyone - friend has same problem and the only solution she's found is stopping the pill. GP says there's no reason the pill should cause UTI's post-sex but she only gets them when taking it, & lots of anecdotal stories online agreeing

Antibiotics don't work?

I have this, amongst other issues with pain in bladder, and am on long term antibiotics I only take every time I have sex. Prior to this I would get a uti every single time but now I don't get them at all. Started on trimethoprim but that stopped working so I went onto nitrofurantoin and they work a treat.

Oh god just seen previous posters point out it's an old thread, oops
