to start a thread for people who actually had a FANTASTIC Mother's Day?

My malingering two year old twins walked for the first time. They'd obviously been deliberately hanging back in order to give me the best present ever. I actually still keep bursting into tears about it Grin.

DP was meant to have been away all weekend so had cooked and given me presents on Thursday, but then ended up being home after all, so we managed to catch up on the Sky box which is a minor achievement. I went to the Mother's Day tea party at nursery, which was lovely. And I got about 10m pieces of 'art' from the twins and chocolate. Lots of chocolate.

I had a grown up phone call with my own DM, who liked her gifts.

There was no family meltdown anywhere and I felt appreciated and loved.

Was I alone?!

Lovely day here as well. Cards from all five children with thoughtful messages, nice gifts (dd had been to my favourite sweet shop because I don't like chocolate) A big Sunday roast and then caught up on TV whilst I watched them all clear up. Felt loved and appreciated by all.

Smiling at 'lukewarm coffee'.
It is true that Mothers' Day breakfast has to be a little cooler than usual or it isn't authentically child-made Smile. Certainly my MD breakfast toast was improved by a sip of tea to help it go down.

SoleSource · 31/03/2014 15:39

I feel delighted about your twins, walking on Mother's Day. Glad you enjoyed your day. My DS was in bed for most of the day.

MistressDeeCee · 31/03/2014 15:45

Had a really lovely day.

started on Friday night when I heard my front door open around 11.30pm & nearly had a heart attack whilst panicking looking for weapon to defend myself and it was my DD, surprising me with a flying visit from Uni so we could spend weekend/mother's day together. Day itself was lovely..nice cards & flowers. Spent with both DDs, DBs, DM & OH. We'd planned to go out but instead stayed home ate & drank too much and sang along very badly to 70s tunes (with the DDs eventually taking refuge upstairs!). Nicest day Ive had in ages Smile I do like a 'simple' Mother's Day as opposed to anything too elaborate.

SoleSource · 31/03/2014 15:48

Sounds perfect to me Mistress. Lovely memories on this thread fr you all. DS bought me Ghost perfume Smile

Bowlersarm · 31/03/2014 15:52

Really lovely day. Opened a present I had chosen myself, plus two cards (between 3 DSes) and out to restaurant for a family lunch without the teen DSes complaining once! Perfect.

stinkingbishop · 31/03/2014 15:55

Smile to the Uni DCs surprising posters by visiting! Maybe this will occur to DS next year (after I tell him about this thread, repeatedly...)

t'was a hot sunny day so I sat in the garden and watched DH clean the windows Smile DS1 (21) bought me some flowers and DS2 bought me some little body shop shower gels, then we all sat down to a rare sunday dinner together with wine. A lovely day. I was not expecting much really as DH said he had left it to the boys.

42andcounting · 01/04/2014 00:52

I know I'm a bit late but don't want to miss out on this one!

It was my first MD and I just loved it. My 5mo DD beamed at me from ear to ear when I leaned over the cot and stayed smiley fohr most of the day, despite teething. DP made me tea and toast in bed, and gave me two beautiful cards from him and the baby, with lovely thoughtful words written inside. Gorgeous flowers in my favourite colours (so impressed he did that), gorgeous lunch out when I admit I got a bit emotional because I was just so happy to have DP and our lovely girl. My cup runneth over.

Then when we got home i got an hours snooze on the sofa while he looked after her, which helped me get over the five night feeds on friday night Smile

The absolute highlight though was just before bed when DP said to me "I don't say this enough but the mummy thing, you've got it nailed.... you're all over it like a bad suit" and gave me a huge hug. I worry all the time about whether I am doing a good job, so that really meant a lot to me Smile

Nice day here too, even if it did begin with minor words about what DD1(16) wanted to wear to church and with DD2(13) about going at all.

But otherwise DD1 made lunch, I did very lazy (aunt Bessie aided) roast for tea and I got chocolate and soap and glory body wash and a fancy joint card and very fancy gift tags I'll add to my magazine file decorating project. The spoils of the day before when they had gone shopping and I had gone for coffee.

(DH will get roped in to cook another day, it was beautiful weather an he had out door stuff to do)

Nocomet · 01/04/2014 08:04

It's just so nice that they get along so well most of the time and really relaxing no longer having to get DH involved in gift buying, which a) he gets utterly stressed by and b) DMIL died without ever meeting DD2 and I know he still misses her (I do too).

Oh and I had a nice chat to my DM on the phone and she liked her envelope (card, some photos and money for bedding plants. Flowers to follow on her birthday as DSIS did mothers' day)

PunkrockerGirl · 01/04/2014 08:48

I had a lovely day too. I had flowers, a Sanctuary candle and some Soap and Glory stuff.

126sticks · 01/04/2014 08:51

I had a nice one too thanks.
Glad that threads like this are started. Else the board keeps looking very unbalanced.

Cookethenook · 01/04/2014 10:11

I had a lovely day!
Home made card, 3 bunches of £1 daffodils. We went to NT park land in the morning with friends, saw some deer, had a picnic. Met DP's parents and sister in the afternoon at their lovely country local. Sat in the garden getting happily tipsy on cider while the baby crawled around being charming and DS (8yo) played with the other children and stroked the horse. It was absolutely brilliant!

CinderellaRockefeller · 01/04/2014 19:41

I had a fab Mother's Day. DH helped DD (4) buy tulips and a travel mug and a card and a cupcake which they brought me in bed. He also bought tulips, a planter thing and a cupcake for my mum who was staying over. We took a picnic to a national trust place then came back and went to his mum's for tea with flowers and gifts, then finally ended up at his step mums with yet more flowers.

DH takes Mother's Day seriously! He even got DD a cupcake for being a good mummy to her bear (and so she wouldn't pester for mine!)

It's nice to focus on the positives sometimes :)

morethanpotatoprints · 01/04/2014 19:46

Ah, yes it was lovely and most of the family were really ill with colds/ flu/ chest infections.
We were all together and looked after each other.
Lovely to see the 3 kids together all day and they were so happy and jolly, even though ill.
I love my family Smile

stinkingbishop · 02/04/2014 15:57

This thread has made me Smile.

Have resolved now to start one positive MN thread a week!!! Balance, people, balance Wink.

I had a lovely Mother's Day.

Woken quite early (boo) but was brough breakfast in bed (yay). DD2 who is disabled and has SN managed to make me some watery squash and burnt toast (sniff).

I got cards, gifts, Interflora delivered a beautiful bouquet of pink and purple flowers (my favourite colours) and I was taken out for dinner. My boyfriend may have played a part in helping my 3 girls to order and pay for the flowers, sub them for the gifts and book and pay for dinner!

I felt utterly loved and blessed Smile
