Went up and down and up and down the yoghurt aisle....there was NOTHING that wasn't either low fat or Activia.

WTF? I just want normal yoghurt...

If you are looking for a yoghurt, can I recommend this. I have to have a will of iron to not buy it every time I go shopping.

Russian Fudge Yoghurt

hazelnutlatte · 30/03/2014 16:04

I've never had trouble finding normal yogurt - look at the big tubs - Rachel's, Yeo valley and onken all available in most supermarkets

Artandco · 30/03/2014 16:20

Never had any problem. We buy tims dairy, racheals or the collective dairy ( like the fudge one above but lemon!).

Indith · 30/03/2014 16:24

Another Lidl shopper here. Massive vats of good old normal yoghurt.

Could I request a slight hijack...

tell me more about yoghurt makers - what should I look for in a yoghurt maker, how much am I looking at for one, and what do I do with it/how does it work?

tia :)

Coruskate- will be looking out for that
Sounds good thanks

CurlyhairedAssassin · 30/03/2014 16:47

I read the labels carefully, coruskate, and really find it hard now to find normal bio or full fat or natural yoghurt (in tesco's anyway). The whole aisle seems to be labelled as "low fat" diet/health type yoghurts. Good old fashioned full fat yoghurt is wedged into one shelf at the end. I don't want watery yoghurt full of sweeteners - I want all the fat it comes with anyway. I am not on a diet, in fact I need all the calories I can get so I don't want diet foods please.

God, even Rachel's now seems to be favouring a low-fat version in our tescos over a tiny amount of their full fat stuff next to it.

SoulJacker · 30/03/2014 16:49

Another slight hijack, but how long do the big pots keep once opened?

We don't get through much so I always buy individual pots which are harder to find if just looking for plain yoghurt.

NigellasDealer · 30/03/2014 16:50

Onken is good so is Rachel's, and the buckets of yoghurt from lidl.
also Chobani was not bad.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 30/03/2014 16:52

Why do you need a yogurt maker? A large container left in a warmish place, or even at room temperature, will do the job. That's what we do.

26th isn't that long ago. Only get through 3 yoghurts a week. Can buy individuals in lidl for 89 p for 4 which last fine (Tesco and aldi both switched to 0% fat on their individual ones in past year) but suspect I'd waste a lot of the large pots.

HaveYouTriedARewardChart · 30/03/2014 17:02

I found it really hard to find non 'low fat" yoghurt in sainsburys last week. IME "low fat" = thickeners added to make it creamy and sugar / sweeteners for flavoured yoghurt.

You can find it, but you've got to hunt for it!

Sainsbury's French set yoghurt, flavoured, in small pots, is brilliant. Let's hope they don't give it up in favour of low fat adulterated crap!

Yeo Valley is made from whole milk. Not too much sugar, reasonable amount of fruit, organic milk too.
It's the nicest youghurt I've found in Britain (aside from Longleys which we can't get this far south!)

Not a patch on french yoghurts though. Tons of fruit, no sugar, just delicious!

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 30/03/2014 17:06

I like the Yeo Valley individual pots. Lovely.

squoosh · 30/03/2014 17:07

YANBU

I want full fat rhubarb yogurt, gimme some full fat rhubarb yogurt goddammit!

Low fat yogurt is a con.

deemented · 30/03/2014 17:11

You don't need a yogurt maker - if you have a slowcooker, then you can use that.

SoulJacker · 30/03/2014 17:12

Yeo valley only do 0% fat vanilla. Makes me laugh as ingredients list includes 'organic maize starch'. Maize starch has no business in a yoghurt organic or not. Breaks my 4 ingredient rule too.
