DH left a huge tomato top on the counter after cooking the other night. It was crouching between cups like a massive great spider. I screamed

Then, a few minutes later I moved one of the cups and it wriggled. I'd forgotten about it so I screamed again

But they do, don't they?

This thread is hilarious. I've always referred to the top of tomatoes as spiders...my husband thought I was feeding him beasties the first time he heard me talking about taking the spiders out of the tomatoes. I've spent my whole adult life thinking I was the only person who thought they looked like spiders - until now.

My rotten husband dropped a tomato stalk on the floor today and failed to pick it up. Nearly jumped out of my skin.

Well this is just one more reason for me not to eat fresh tomatoes!

I used to work in a kitchen (lone female in an all male environment) and I used to pull all of the tops of the tomatoes when they were delivered...think 60 tomatoes..... and then shout 'spiders!' and throw them at unsuspecting big tough chefs
