To not understand the point of, or why indeed people go on the programme 'Secret Eaters'.

It's so formulaic. Person(s) claims not to understand how they've put on so much weight/can't lose any weight. Person claims to consume 1500 calories a day. Person is then secretly filmed (although not that secretly filmed cos they know they're being filmed cos they're on the program) and eats plates of food the size of another person. All day long. Person is then shown the "secret footage" and person displays suitable surprise (why? they are being filmed for the program. And surely they know how and what they are eating even when they're not being filmed, unless they were drugged and taken to a kebab shop against their will.) Person then understands where they are going wrong (eating massive amounts of food) and decides not to eat massive amounts of food anymore.

Really?

Fuck off.

Fandango: I saw it tonight and can't even remember a bloke in it! Just the nutritionist woman and the annoying presenter!

That wig case study is amazing. Starts off like wurzel Gummidge and ends up like Joanna lumley in the Avengers Grin

Cakeismymaster · 26/03/2014 22:22

You're welcome moon Grin small things and all that

Cakeismymaster · 26/03/2014 22:24

I like how the guy obviously isn't ashamed of his wig..as he has agreed to be the case study. Proud of his syrup.

Sans rug he looks great.
The classic clever older man

Avec wig he looks like a hoarder with emotional issues.

Rollergirl1 · 26/03/2014 22:29

Everything: That's the crux of it really, are they that stupid? I was going to word my original post very differently. But decided against it, didn't want to get slated in AIBU.

Loving your work fandango. No not so much hoarder as dodgy car dealer.

RufusTheReindeer · 26/03/2014 22:34

I watch the show

I don't understand how they can't see that what they are eating is the cause of their weight gain (I get how you can misjudge but not by double!)

It's does make me hungry, fancied a soft boiled egg, I haven't had one for years

WillYouDoTheFandango · 26/03/2014 22:37

I really want a carvery after tonight's show

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 26/03/2014 22:39

There is a weird compulsion in me to see big people eat loads.

It reassures me that to get really big, you have to eat a lot, and it can't just happen without you noticing....

Elledouble · 26/03/2014 22:41

I think some people genuinely don't 'get' healthy eating though. I know someone at work who honestly said to me "oh, this healthy eating is KILLING me, Elle"... While polishing off a large tub (enough to feed at least 2) of M&S potato salad and some kind of giant sandwich. Because it's salad, right? It's healthy.

I'm hardly skinny myself but I do at least realise I'm eating badly.

Ah, that wig. I was asking myself, why is Bernie Ecclestone on Secret Eaters?

I like a bit of formulaic telly, but this show just makes me go mmmmmm over much.

Rollergirl1 · 26/03/2014 22:54

Ahhh, this car-crash tv eh?

Secret Eaters vs Hoarders? Doesn't really work as a concept does it? The secret eaters will eat it before the hoarders even know it's there.

moondog · 26/03/2014 23:09

Yes, Bernie ecclestone!!!!!

moondog · 26/03/2014 23:14

With regard to Cake's v helpful rug link, said psychologist is posing with model of his head and shoulders. Worryingly, it is difficult to ascertain which figure is latex and which flesh and blood.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 26/03/2014 23:21

I don't know if it was Secret Eaters or a similar programme, but I'll never forget the overweight opera singer who couldn't understand why she wasn't losing weight because she stuck to 1500 cals per day and 'only ate fruit for breakfast'.

When they showed her eating said fruit, it filled a bowl the size of a washing up bowl, and contained at least two pun nets of berries, a melon, a pineapple and apples and oranges Hmm.

They also said that her daily calorie intake was more than double, at 3000+.

Well a lot overweight people claim to not eat much abs but understand why they are so overweight.
When I was at school a girl I was friends with was on a diet. Another friend asked how she was doing 'good. I had salad for dinner yesterday didn't I meganorks?'
Well technically yes. But after you went straight to the chip shop for pie and chips!
Judging but her Facebook she is still up to the same now.

I think a lot of people are that thick. They underestimate the calories in food. We had a person in a diet group and she was keeping a picture food diary. A mahoosive tuna roll with Mayo and she said it was 100 calories. We were all slightly amused and pointed out that the mayo alone was probably that but she was not swayed. She swore she was sticking to her calories and had no idea how she was still 18 stone week after week despite "sticking to her diet"
