Conscious uncoupling? Really?

AIBU to think that Gwyneth and Chris are so contrived? Have you seen the website they announced their conscious uncoupling on? They posted a photo of them happily sitting in a field.... It's so cringe worthy

I feel for the kids though, I just hope apple don't crumble

YANBU - it's just ridiculous.

Grin at "I just hope apple don't crumble"

aermingers · 26/03/2014 19:46

This is code for 'my wife is shagging everything that moves but I don't want to be emasculated so I'm pretending it's not happening and I'm okay with it all and all her hippy dippy touchy feely new age bullshit'.

miffybun73 · 26/03/2014 19:47

I think that you're right aermingers

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 26/03/2014 19:50

I know it's gossip fodder for the masses but bloody hell, there are several other threads on this... women are generally quite horrible. Confused

GlassCaseofEmotion · 26/03/2014 19:51

I heard on the radio that they also describe it as "extending their family" rather than a divorce, because they are still so close. I like the theory but can't see it working in practice. It is otherwise terribly sad. But Gwyneth is just SO.....perfect?!? Would you expect anything else from her - that Goop website is just ramblings and aspirational guff by someone completely removed from reality.

Chocoholism · 26/03/2014 19:51

I couldn't find any other threads sorry, I just wanted to post me joke I heard :)

Beehatch · 26/03/2014 19:53

I liked the comment someone made on Radio 4 about the fact it makes a change from breakups that involve 'unconcious coupling' Grin

rootypig · 26/03/2014 19:54

surely it should be decoupling? or does this mean something carnal Grin

Chocoholism · 26/03/2014 19:56

I think that's how I got together with my DP beehatch Wink

Rumour has it he's been at it quite a bit himself.

HarderThanYouThink · 26/03/2014 21:08

"I just hope Apple doesn't crumble"

I have tears rolling down my face at this! Grin

Sparrowlegs248 · 26/03/2014 21:29

Pretentious twats.

ShirakawaKaede · 27/03/2014 01:55

"Conscious decoupling" - because divorce/separation is just so beneath them.

FFS.

HopelessDei · 27/03/2014 02:12

You rather get the feeling Chris Martin probably read that statement at the same time as the rest of us.

I know they're not going to give us the low-down in a PR statement (indeed, why should they?) but can't they just say "We're getting divorced. Ends."? Do they have to do this we're so in love, best friends, wonderful children (why would we doubt they love their children Confused), co-parents forever, life's beautiful crap. Clearly if you're such great mates and closer than ever you wouldn't be getting divorced.

FrozenYogurt · 27/03/2014 03:21

What riles me is that the 'note from GP', as it appeared on her blog, was accompanied by a self-serving interview with a psychologist who basically said it's unnatural to stay in a long-term monogamous relationship. The theory put forward the idea that because we're living three times as long as our pre-historic selves it's unrealistic to stay with the same person for all that time. And that it was more likely that an adult would have up to three long-term partners in their life.
I've never heard such guff, put forward to justify her own agenda.

BlueFrenchHorn · 27/03/2014 04:53

I feel sorry for Apple. Her parents are divorcing and everyone around her finds it hilarious.

Blueuggboots · 27/03/2014 05:43

I think there is a lot of hatred for GP.
Their kids will be able to google them and find everything about their separation and divorce.....why not try and deal with it calmly, politely boringly if you like if only for your children?

Noteventhebestdrummer · 27/03/2014 05:50

I hope Apple's not TOO cut up about it all...

Lweji · 27/03/2014 05:52

I'm with blue.
I actually find the joke very distasteful. Because it's at the expense of a child.

ShirleyFuckingKnot · 27/03/2014 06:02

Yup. I'm amazed that people find it ok to laugh at a child's pain because her parents gave her a stupid name.

Tears running down your face laughing at a play on apple crumble? Dear me. Hmm

CSIJanner · 27/03/2014 06:20

Decoupling makes it sound like a freight train.

deakymom · 27/03/2014 06:38

ive always thought its pretentious to release a press statement about your personal life i mean apart from the child who really cares? i didnt even know they had got married

HairyGrotter · 27/03/2014 06:42

I think most are missing the major issue here...imagine the utter emo shite Chris will write now Confused

Sillybillybob · 27/03/2014 06:54

I find it odd that, regardless of statements made etc, anyone finds it appropriate to take the piss out of a couple getting divorced. Ffs look at the relationships board - it's not easy for anyone regardless of what the marriage has been like.

And "Apple crumble"? You're taking the piss out of a primary school child who can't even do anything about her name if she wants to. Well done, you clever thing Hmm

Melonbreath · 27/03/2014 07:00

Pants. Does this mean Coldplay will start making more music? Noooooo!
