Hockey seems more dangerous than Rugby to me

Confession: I have never played hockey

Confession 2: I played a heck of a rugby as a youth and broke bones and still have scars.

But still Hockey seems such a more dangerous support, waving those sticks in the air.

When I was at uni, we played a 'rugby' match against the girl's hockey team, we lost a lot of blood!

I think any contact sport comes with an element of risk.

There are certainly some nasty injuries caused by rugby though - just this week an Australian league player has fractured his neck in a tackle :(

My granny's brother died playing hurling as a boy.

These are my legs after Sunday's rugby game :-) love the sport though (and we have 2 mums play for us - a mum of 2 and a mum of 3).

Oh shit, sorry, my pic took ages to load. Don't mean to trivialise spinal injury and death by posting about poxy bruises. Pics were in response to light hearted earlier banter, not the last two posts.

Those look seriosuly 'ouch' Ehhn. Are they from someone's feet?

Standingonlego · 25/03/2014 23:20

My 2 DS play both Hockey and Rugby...even though they are only 5 and 7 both sports have already turned up some interesting injuries...sounds like I need to get my A&E loyalty card ready. DHs hockey injuries seem to be increasing in frequency (the odd concussion, stitches, broken nose, various astro burns)...maybe less able to run out the way Grin

But both FABULOUS team sports with great off-pitch fun.

Squoosh - I play scrum half and am always vulnerable to those big old forwards raking over me with their boots!

Greenandcabbagelooking · 26/03/2014 08:00

I have ridden horses, played hockey and done ballet. Guess which has caused most injuries?

lovetoski · 26/03/2014 08:02

My ds13 plays hockey for school B team, doesn't seem too violent yet, all he seems to get is ankle injures and black toe nails he has a matching set of bruised black big toe nails that will look lovely in the summer, same as last year if I remember. His rugby injuries seemed worse, winded, cuts and more bruises.
