I'm a 32H and breastfeeding my 3 week old. I used to love my boobs, but a substantial underwired bra was essential. Now that I'm breastfeeding I'm wearing what can only be described as a boob hammock. It's hideous. Can anyone recommend a larger nursing bra which actually offers support or better still is underwired? Please help!

think it's not recommended something to do with the breast tissue or some such. sorry.

There is one (google it I can't remember the name!) but it's shit and when I got one I bought the H and it was too small.

Either modify a stretchy normal bra or just resign yourself to mono-boob for the time to come

Yes they do exist fig leaves do them. If you Google underwired nursing bras there's a few sites that do quite pretty ones. I had a hissy when I was newly PG and saw how hideous most maternity/nursing bras were and refuses to buy one! Get measured properly in a shop then order online

You can get Anita underwired nursing bras, but I'm not sure if they go up to your size.

You can get kits to modify normal bras too.

It is fine to wear underwiring during breastfeeding, though you might want to let them settle down from the initial engorgement first. They just need to fit properly and not press on breast tissue, same as underwiring in pregnancy, and in fact any time.

I've got the Anita one but I think you need to size up as they skip some of the double letters. It's very full coverage though and can be seen above tops that aren't particularly low cut.

I've tried the anita (I'm 34H in bravissimo) and even the 34I on amazon was a bit wee. After nearly killing our postie with online bra delivery I've bought 2 more normal bras and am going to convert them to nursing. I could have written your post btw...

I never bothered with nursing bras because the support was non existence, my boobs where squashed into a big mono-booby shape and where very frumpy.
I had regular bras and pulled the shoulder strap down, worked brilliantly. I'm a 34 g and support, and a decent shape are a must.

I think I had one from Debenhams that was underwired. It was my posh going out bra, as they hoiked them up

I couldn't find any to fit me when I was BF. I bought the converter clips and transformed a Panache super bra, worked a treat.

As a repeat sufferer of mastitis go see our gp at the first hint of a temperature or red patch or painful boob. Hope you don't get it but underwired bras can make it more likely. And congrats on your new baby.

I was 34H when bf. I wore a horrendous soft cup thing for DC1. Never again. I wore normal underwired bras for later DC. Like drnoitall, I just pulled down the straps and hoiked out a nork. Never had any problems.

If your bra fits well, such that the underwire never digs into your breast tissue, even just before a feed, then it is fine.

Imo, it is all a big marketing conspiracy to convince women they need speshul expensive nursing stuff, like bf pjs ffs.

The online NCT shop sold underwired nursing bras - hopefully they still do. I wore mine for over a year and it coped admirably with my maahoooosive boobs. Much better than the mothercare ones which actually made me cry.

It is ok to wear underwires, so long as you ensure that the fit is perfect i.e. that the wire is absolutely not resting on breast tissue

I'm pretty sure that Anita don't do double letter (FF, GG etc) so you need to count up through their sizes to get your equivalent. I think a normal H would be an Anita K but I would not swear to it.

Ewa Michalak, a polish brand who I have used several times, make underwired feeding bras in your size - linky. The other option is buying the clips and converting.

I'm also quite large busted and find the whole nursing bra thing quite traumatic. Have never managed to get back into underwiring, but bought a padded nursing bra from debeenhams. Never understood before why they made padded bras for big sizes, but it is sooo comfy and makes my boobs look much nicer, because the padding provides support without the need for underwiring. Also very cheap bra extenders on ebay may help if you are struggling to find your size.
