AIBU to put off telling my GP I am pregnant ?

Last pregnancy I called up at 6 weeks and after the receptionist INSISTING I cannot book a midwife appt unless I spoke to a doctor I was told (by said doctor) "oh but you are so early. I guess we can book the appointment for you and you can always cancel if you're not pregnant by that time. 1 in 3 pregnancies end up in a miscarriage anyway." I spent the 20 min walk home bawling my eyes out.

I'm being ignorant this time (got bfp yesterday) and I just want to know if I'm being an idiot. But just thinking about it makes me extremely anxious Shock

Booking in apointment with mw is 8 weeks here. Id ring the gp surgery and see if you can just book for mw. I wouldnt leave it too long due to the time it can take to get a scan appointment.

Congratulations

I went to the GP at 5 weeks and now I'm 10+3 and still no booking in appointment through. I'll be amazed if they manage to scan me by 14.

Do you have the same doctor that I had for my first pregnancy? He sounds awfully familiar. Reminded me about 3 times that 1 in 3 pregnancies end in mc. I had also been told by the receptionist that I needed to see Dr.

For DD2 I had changed doctors as I had moved. Lovely receptionist said, "oh you don't have to see the doctor unless there's a problem but I'll book you in for the MW for blah blah blah weeks". Much better!

In our area we self refer to the midwife. The receptionist just gives you a form to fill in. I think I self referred at 7 weeks this time, had booking appointment at 11 weeks and scan at 13.

GP's can be really unhelpful during pregnancy. During this last pg mine told me I could take ibuprofen for my joints, when I said that I was sure you weren't allowed during pregnancy he told me it was absolutely fine to take up to 6 200mg tabs a day. I didn't! Told my midwife, she was furious.

Thank you, everyone. Spoke to the community midwives and they said I have to go through the surgery as that is where I will be seen but I don't have to see a GP unless I absolutely want to. I rang the surgery and booked an appointment in 3 weeks time with a midwife. Feeling a bit more relaxed now. I know whatever will happen is out of my control but added stress doesn't really help. X

congrats.
i cant remember what i did, youngest is 14, but i think direct to midwife, and when i went early she told me off, but she was very nice, saying it would be a very long pregnancy starting so early Smile

When I saw my gp she gave me my flu jab whilst I was there. Wasn't expecting that! She was lovely though. Very efficient.

Ring your GP and ask what their procedure is and go on from there. Congratulations btw. Grin
