In Sainsbury's. I mean have I entered a timewarp and gone back to 1950? I was Shock and put them straight back on the shelf.

Oh get over it. Not everything has to be politics. Don't buy it then and move on in your life !

Logg1e · 20/03/2014 19:52

Go on confuddled!

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2014 19:59

Yes tell us confuddled

MinesAPintOfTea · 20/03/2014 20:02

Given the history of it being invented by the housewife cooperative I think it would be offensive to change the name. If it was named as an instruction as to who should change it that would be different, especially if it was to be a new name.

ShatnersBassoon · 20/03/2014 20:05

MinesaPint, you're dead right.

confuddledDOTcom · 21/03/2014 10:04

the current fashionable euphemism for it is the toilet. it has no name and goes through euphemism fashions.

Lj8893 · 21/03/2014 10:25

This is the best thread ever!!! Talk about being PO!!

So should I not have Oxford pillowcases because I don't live in Oxford?

Sallyingforth · 21/03/2014 10:28

Well OP, if this is the worst thing you have to complain about, you must be having a wonderful life. I'm jealous of you.

YABU.

Mckayz · 21/03/2014 10:32

It's a bloody pillowcase!!! I don't understand why people get so het up about crap like this.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2014 10:33

presumably it's just one of the things that was bugging her and the one she happened to share at the time. Do you only ever start a thread on MN when it's highly serious?

Mckayz · 21/03/2014 10:37

No but I also can't understand why or how a pillowcase can be considered sexist.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2014 10:39

Well given that it's called the "housewife" I can see quite clearly how it may be assume it refers to women's work. Apparently that's not the case (I didn't know that before this thread) but seems fairly obvious to me.
A bit like if a dry cleaners advertised: "Women! Get your husband's shirts cleaned and pressed here for only £2 per garment." I'd be up in arms.

Ated · 30/09/2017 19:24

How about Crapper, as it was invented by Thomas Crapper.

Whils we are at it, why not ban the use of Mum, Mother, Grandma, Aunt, Sister, Dad, Father and all the other 1000's of words that refer to gender. Everyone refers to the glass ceiling for women, but when you get stupid references about housewife for a pillow case, then it's a wonder that these women are ever let out of the playpen. There's just no hope for the future now.

DameXanaduBramble · 30/09/2017 19:29

I despair doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Wolfiefan · 30/09/2017 19:30

WTF did you search to resurrect this ZOMBIE!!

StealthPolarBear · 30/09/2017 19:33

I think I said all I want to say about 1000 days ago
