Iamthezombie I love your post and I interested to hear you are offended by the posts, you and other sufferers of all people should have your opinion listened to. I am glad I didn't participate in the game but did give the donation.

ForgiveMeFather · 20/03/2014 14:47

I'm so sorry for those of you whose cancer journey has been a well-trodden path Thanks. I do understand how these posts must be making you feel.

My own journey with cancer has just begun, it's all very new to me still and so I suppose I just got caught up in the moment.

Do what I am doing, if you see a post on your timeline, leave a message and spread the word to donate, donate, donate.

LtEveDallas · 20/03/2014 14:52

Marms,

Hope you are OK, was worried when I realised you had disappeared.

I think you are wrong though - I reckon it started LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME and hasn't moved on much further. It's just that now more people are being shamed into actually doing something rather than just a fucking photo. The same people that were doing it for "likes" are now posting about how great they are and how 'right' they were now that the money is coming in - forgetting that none of them actually donated until people stated pulling them up on it. Still bless 'em, they generally aren't the brightest Grin

I've lost a few FB friends - and had some PA bollocks that I just know was aimed at me, but I don't care. The people I care about, actually truely care about know, understand and agree with my position. Anyone else can GTF.

ILovePonyo · 20/03/2014 14:56

This selfie thing has not sat right with me since it stated, I wasn't sure why. Then I saw on Facebook (a friend of a friend) had put her own selfie with the words "nominated by..... Here is my #nomakeupselfie Not sure what it's about but thought I'd better jump on the bandwagon! Lol!" Then a load of comments saying how good she looked (Hun) AND NO ONE TOLD HER IT WAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH RAISING CANCER AWARENESS!! Aaaaagh.

It has got me thinking that I'm really fucking lucky no immediate family members have been affected. zombie and ladybeagleeyes and anyone else affected! wishing you all the best.

ledkr I'm sorry about your friend! I didn't know. Hugs.

MarmaladeShatkins · 20/03/2014 14:58

I'm OK thanks for worrying, Eve! I wasn't flouncing, honest, just didn't want to get into spats with folk!

I'm so pleased that it HAS encouraged donations. However money arrives at these charities it is a blessing. BUT, personally for me, a lot of people on my feed were just doing the attention-whore thing then complaining when prompted on donations. I'm sure it's not the case for everyone. Preggerz n Peng cuzzii for one and her two sisters. It would cause a massive family ruckus if I'd had a pop so thought best to step away for a few days until it's all died down.

Yes, I also suspect when I log back in at the weekend (which I have to do as I run my events page on FB! :( ) that there will be lots of gloatingabout how much it's raised! But still, as long as it's being raised, good!

GTF Grin

Shit sorry, please ignore that "!" above, was meant to be a comma.

IamtheZombie · 20/03/2014 15:05

Hugs Marmy. Snogs her for good measure.

Here's a link to my selfie:

It links a current trend (selfies & FB nominations) with a charity so raises awareness across the generations. A vast amount of money has been raised as a result of the campaign. It's not rocket science. I don't understand what's so wrong with it.

LtEveDallas · 20/03/2014 15:15

IamtheZombie · 20/03/2014 15:17

Don't worry, Marmy. I'm not shy. So a few more people know my first name.

IamtheZombie · 20/03/2014 15:17

Just ask HQ to change to Zombie.

MarmaladeShatkins · 20/03/2014 15:19

How embarrassing! Ye Gods... Flowers

IamtheZombie · 20/03/2014 15:24

Don't worry. I've just totally outed myself on FB by posting the link to my selfie as my status.

MarmaladeShatkins · 20/03/2014 15:25

I know but it's one thing YOU outing YOU and me outing you! Grin

IamtheZombie · 20/03/2014 15:28

Maybe I should tweet the link as well. In for a penny and all that. Wink

theansweris42 · 20/03/2014 15:50

Oh. I did this - never do FB things but I've lost 3 family members to cancer and have friends undergoing treatment.
I posted mine with the donation details. All those I've known who've battled cancer would rather more awareness than less, more donations than fewer.
There are cancer survivors doing this....
There's no young people in my "friend" list though so not seen any gratuitous ones.

movingsoon23 · 20/03/2014 16:03

Low uptake rates of screening programmes of various cancers show that awareness IS an issue that needs addressed. Early detection is your very best chance of beating cancer - the very fact that these selfies are encouraging debate (such as these threads on mn and fb debates) is a good thing. Later stage cancers may not be curable but many early stage cancers have a very high chance of survival if acted on. Awareness is just as (if not more) important as donating.

HugoTheHippo · 20/03/2014 20:57

I just donated £20 to Cancer Research UK in appreciation of the fact that no one has yet nominated me for a no make-up selfie. No one needs to see that in their timeline.
