House prices to rent

My DH just got transferred to another part of the country. At the minute we r renting in Hampshire, a 2 bedroom for £695

We r going about a two hour drive from here, near Coventry.

Started having a quick look at houses and found a 3 bed room detached house with front and back garden in a decent area for the same price we r paying for a 2 bed room terraced with a tiny garden in a decent area.

For the difference of 2 hours?!

Don't really have a point, just surprised at such a big difference!

The area's prices can differ according to where it is, Coventry has nice areas & erm, not so nice. Outside Coventry is the same.

Whereabouts are you looking? I could tell you if an area is nice or not....

We live in the NW and a 2 bed terrace with a tiny garden in our area is £425 - £450.
You can buy a 2 bed terrace for around 60k.
There is a huge difference.

Well hubby is working in Finham, so will be looking for somewhere nearby

It's ridiculous though. I used to live in the south east (my whole family being there) and my sister rents out her maisonette (1 or two bed depending on if you want a dining room or not) with ring kitchen and living room and no garden for £850/ month. I'm in leicester (1.5h away) and pay just under £600 for a 3 bed (2 double bedrooms) house with conservatory, big garden, garage, shed, lots of storage in a nice area with great schools. It's insane.

We r paying almost double than in NW?! It's crazy.

My hubby was offered a transfer to London Central, but we couldn't afford it, either to move, or his petrol. It makes me wonder how some people manage to live.

Do, maybe I'm just a bit naive. We come from Scotland and always know there was a huge difference in price between Scotlnd and England, just didn't realise the huge differences between areas in England.

We rent a one bed in London. For £1650 a month. Boo hoo

You might find that the £695/month in Hampshire is 'cheap' relative to the cost of buying. And in Coventry, it's possible that the £695/month is 'expensive'.

It's just crazy the difference in house prices in different parts of the country. Not boo hoo, I was only making a point.

Bungalow next door detached 2 beds nothing special one bathroom £ 1400 The South. Rents are insane

I moved to the Midlands from London, and could rent a 2-bedroom house with a yard for about the same as I paid for a room in a shared house in zone 2/3 in London. Seems mad, but there is MASSIVE variation out there.

I live in a little village where a three bedroomed house averages at about £700pm. 3 miles down the road, in the council estate part of the nearest town, the same house would be about £450! Location is everything apparently. I'm lucky that I got a fixed price tenancy for £475 for my two bed, as the average for the houses I rent is £600, but my landlord is more concerned with having a good tenant than he is with making more money.

Finham is really nice and Baginton village nearby

We pay £450 for a roomy 2 bed terrace with small garden, our NDN are paying £350!!! I am also in the NW, I used to live in the SE and was gobsmacked at the prices up here. Admittedly our area is shite though.

Lolly I am in Scotland and for a 2 bed flat on my little estate its 625 - 695 a month. I find it as thats not far off twice my mortgage for my 3 bed/twice the size house.

We pay £650 for our spacious 2 bed/2 bathroom flat in Edinburgh but I have a friend just up the road who pays £700 for a tiny one bed flat. She thinks she has a good deal, I think she's a loon!

I don't get why you're surprised either.

Finhams nice, really good secondary school with a Catholic secondary there as well & nice little primaries. I'd say the demographic is comfortably off elderly but is very family orientated too, lots of families.

Local shops. a pub, newsagent, Subway & fish & chip shop. The only thing I'd say is don't live on the side of the A45 (as I did for 2 years) as its a massively busy road & the traffic noise & sirens at night can be frustrating. But that's it.

I'm in the NW and within 1 mile on rightmove 2 bed range from £1350 pm for a penthouse apartment to £595 for a tiny flat

3 bed houses are between £900 and £750 a month

4 bed houses are between £2000 and £1500 a month

That's a lot of variance in a 1 mile radius IMO

Go for Kenilworth if you can. Dh was a student in Coventry and lived in earlsdon. It was nice if you're carless.

We live in SW London and our neighbours (identical houses) pay £400 more per month than we do. I haven't broken it to them yet - they have just moved in.
