I rather over-enthusiastically defrosted too much. Im trying to get my 12 week old to take from a bottle for my return to work in june but as you can tell it wasnt a success and not wanting to waste it, whilst she latched on and had a feed i polished off the milk in the bottle. My stomach did flip a little at the thought but i thought, why not? I made it, there's a lot worse bodily fluids you can drink and it actually wasnt too bad. It had a very slight taste of baked beans (i've had them for lunch 2 days running now) but not unpleasant at all. Am i weird?

It got me thinking, of all the benefits in breastmilk, as a consumer do i reap these now or do i benefit from being a lactator anyway so dont need to consume? I'm definitely weird.

I don't think it's weird. It's certainly better than letting it go to waste.

I used to express a lot with DS1 so tasted breastmilk then. I also tasted the formula we gave him when we didn't have any EBM to hand. And IMO, breastmilk tastes much nicer than formula milk.

LimeLelloLizard · 18/03/2014 16:10

I was with you until you said it tasted of baked beans..!

Slh122 · 18/03/2014 16:13

Haha! When my milk first came in I was so in awe that my boobs were actually producing milk that I expressed a bit onto my finger just to taste it Blush
It tasted like gone off ice cream...

Refoca · 18/03/2014 16:14

It's funny, this totally gives me the ick but it rationally shouldn't. I could never get more than 2-3 ounces per pumping session!

RedFocus · 18/03/2014 16:27

My brother once said to me "can't you go in another room to bf as you are putting me off my dinner" so using expressed milk I made him a lovely, milky cup of tea! To this day he still doesn't know I did it! Hehe

Sortyourmakeupout · 18/03/2014 16:40

Yuck.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/03/2014 16:42

I'm just in awe of you being able to express 2 pints a day - that's amazing Shock

Anniecarrieson · 18/03/2014 16:43

I used to wonder how long I could sustain myself on my own breastmilk in a desert island situation Grin

Sparklingbrook · 18/03/2014 16:44

Envy at all you people that can pump loads.

This was 15 years ago now but the most I ever got out was 1oz. Sad It took an hour.

normalishdude · 18/03/2014 16:44

more normal to drink that than cow's milk.

exhaustedmummymoo · 18/03/2014 16:45

Lol OP I was fine with what you wrote until I got to baked bean flavour...ewyuk! (Then again I hate baked beans so thought of baked bean milk...)

pointythings · 18/03/2014 17:58

I was the queen of oversupply, me. I remember feeding DD1 when she was very little - she pulled away and I thought 'that's rather a long strand of drool' only to then realise that it was a jet of milk covering well over a foot. It caused its own problems, but it was good to know I had loads.

I would love to try it but I can't stand the thought of drinking any milk!

Quodlibet · 18/03/2014 18:13

Do you reckon you could make cheese out of BM? I don't really like drinking milk but do love a good bit of cheese...

ShadowFall · 18/03/2014 18:14

You can make ice-cream out of breastmilk.

I saw something on the news a year or two back where a shop was selling ice-cream made from human breastmilk.

Yuck! well shouldn't say that ...but it was the baked bean bit that has me feel sick.

It is for babies/young children.

you should have something more appropriate Grin

Ilikepancakes · 18/03/2014 19:17

YANBU

I don't like drinking milk so I wouldn't go for it myself especially with a hint of baked beans which I also hate. But no harm in it, no different from drinking milk from bovine mums.

sarahquilt · 18/03/2014 19:24

boak

ILoveCwtches · 18/03/2014 19:30

Mine's too sweet for my liking, but I imagine if you like sugar and milk in your coffee, it would be quite nice.

Don't see why it's weird to taste it, though. Smile

maddening · 18/03/2014 19:31

try eating chocolate for a few days and test it again :)

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 18/03/2014 19:34
