MamaPain · 17/03/2014 18:30

Ask her to define Afro-Caribbean food as well!

Bornin1984 · 17/03/2014 22:00

Any update?

whattoWHO · 17/03/2014 22:07

I wonder if the school holidays will be paid?

CannyBagOfTudor · 17/03/2014 22:11

A similarish story, though not quite the sanme...

When I was 18 years old (1996) with no childcare experience at all I answered an advert for a cleaner.

The lady on the phone said she'd already found a cleaner but thought I sounded ever so nice and would I like to do some babysitting and light cleaning day to day.

Most of the time this involved playing with the baby and doing things like folding her husband's clothes (which he left in a pile on the floor) and taking him cups of tea in bed Hmm

She wanted to go on a business trip to Germany with her DH so gave me £100 to look after her 8 month old baby for a week.

So I - a random 18 year old with no childcare experience, no qualifications, and no CRB (ok, no convictions, but she had no way of knowing that) - was left in charge of her house and her 8 month old.

I was already living in a house I was paying rent on, so there was no big plus to a weeks rent-free living.

VoyageDeVerity · 17/03/2014 22:13

She wants a slave

NurseyWursey · 17/03/2014 22:13

It's a shame because someone might actually go for this because they're desperate.

Redcliff · 17/03/2014 22:22

This seems very odd - would love to get a service like this for £45 s week but would never be such a knob to post an ad like this .

elliebe13 · 17/03/2014 22:29

The fact that I could afford to pay somebody £45 a week to do all that and I myself am on minimum wage says enough!!!

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 17/03/2014 22:39

I thought it was for four separate jobs! Even at £245 a week for all that shite I'd be a bit Confused. When, pray tell does she have this quality family time as she seems to be working and/or having the lucky applicant do everything?

sparechange · 18/03/2014 12:26

Erm, have you seen this thread from 2011?

V strange...

LaurieFairyCake · 18/03/2014 12:48

I wonder if she's up for the 'I'm the most evil slave owning cunt in the world' award Hmm

I have all kinds of hate for that particular brand of evil

TillyTellTale · 18/03/2014 13:00

is that an old ad? I'm sure I recognise it.

TillyTellTale · 18/03/2014 13:01

Strike that, I do. Sparechange linked to the last thread.

zirca · 18/03/2014 13:03

I thought the going rate was £100 per week + accommodation and food for an au pair? And an au pair wouldn't have all those qualifications...

Erm, have you seen this thread from 2011?www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1192279-To-think-this-is-slave-labour/AllOnOnePage V strange

That's odd??

pizzachickenhotforyou · 18/03/2014 13:17

The doles 57 a week & housing benefit might cover your accommodation!
Plus that's a lot of work! It'd be completely different to looking after your own house/kids as she probably runs a white glove along the surfaces.
£45!! You only get your evening meal too so it'll not go far at all.

adsy · 18/03/2014 13:26

Odd. I wonder if her last slave left and she just reposted her old ad?
Maybe she,s been using the same ad for 30 years and that explains the pay offer!

OP posts:
PedantMarina · 18/03/2014 13:54

Surely she'd be advertising in guineas then?

Or shillings, given what a tightwad she seems...

kerala · 18/03/2014 14:03

My word. I got £30 per day for childcare as an unqualified 18 year old in 1996! That said it was 3 kids (6,4 and1) who lived in the middle of nowhere strictly no tv. My instructions were 9 hours of "creative play" . This experience very nearly put me off having kids of my own. The eldest now in prison for drug dealing (and they were a naice middle class hippyish family)

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 18/03/2014 14:10

How odd, word for word!

Any response yet OP?

merrymouse · 18/03/2014 14:20

I was paid 500 francs a week (so roughly £50) in Paris as an au pair in 1994.

Odd that the ad is the same.

HemlockStarglimmer · 18/03/2014 14:52

When I was 17 I had a summer job as a waitress (140 miles away from my home). Free board and lodging for six weeks and 64p an hour for waitressing.

One day the owner asked me to babysit her eight year old for the afternoon/evening until her older son got home. So I did. I was paid a £1. Not £1 per hour but £1 for seven hours.

Even for 1979 that was miserly.

YouTheCat · 18/03/2014 15:08

Kerala, they should have let the poor sods watch some tv maybe they wouldn't have turned to drugs. Grin

adsy · 18/03/2014 16:09

sorry all, she's not even opened my message yet
