I've got several friends who train. Some of them have lost loads of weight, some of them have always trained and love it.

I am happy for them. I think its great that they've changed their lives and found something they love. I get that they are on a high by doing what they enjoy and want others to join in.

But what is seriously starting to hack me off is their assumption that anyone who doesn't train or want to lose weight or eat clean or so whatever the latest cleansing detox is, must be inherently unhappy. When I say I don't really enjoy the gym, I am met with "You haven't found the right exercise" or "I was full of excuses too, and look at me now". I walk many miles a day btw, I am not unfit and I'm perfectly happy with my weight. I, and other friends get this all the time particularly from the new found exercise fanatics.

It's not a bloody excuse! What you enjoy doing, is not what I enjoy doing! I am happy to let you be, so just let ME be! Surely that is not unreasonable???

wowfudge you should meet my MIL! I go to the gym regularly, I run, I am pretty damn fit. But I hate walking, and she nags me that I don't exercise because I don't walk Confused

I have a theory that a lot of them are trying to convince themselves rather than anyone else. They think that if they tell anyone and everyone How much they love their exercise regime and diet, then it will be true.

YANBU - Unless you moan about being overweight or stuff like that!!

I am a fitness addict and go to the gym every day but I really don't give a toss what anyone else does - you live your life and I will live mine.

Horses for courses and all that! :)

I run several times a week, work out a little at home, walk the dog miles each day and am quite particular about what I eat on a day-to-day basis (no simple carbs, only complex, etc).

However, I also like crisps, curries, beer and wine, and regularly indulge in them and I won't join a gym because they're full of lycra-clad types who make me feel ill at ease. Most of my friends smoke and I don't care and I see the purpose of fitness as to keep myself well enough to really enjoy life to the full, rather than to "keep fit" IYSWIM.

I often get asked what I do to "stay so slim" Hmm and will then reply that I run. I'll give the same reply if people ask me what I do to relax (running is like a form of therapy for me). But I don't proffer unless asked.
