Too right. They are not for picking. Angry But with Mothers Day in 2 weeks expect to see an increase in this. Sad

WorraLiberty · 15/03/2014 16:07

I hope you told her to pack it in?

The council here have got very hot on this sort of thing. They've even published photos from CCTV cameras in the local paper.

A lot of the pickers would hop on a train and sell them on the streets in the nearest town...or rather they'd go begging and give a daffodil as a 'thank you' for the money.

Thumbwitch · 15/03/2014 16:07

Correct - they are not for picking, they are Council property (I believe) and therefore she is stealing.

Sparklingbrook · 15/03/2014 16:08

The sort of people that do this are the sort to give you a mouthful of expletives if you dare to comment.

morethanpotatoprints · 15/03/2014 16:12

Our council are hot on this too. They will prosecute as theft.

diamondlizard · 15/03/2014 16:12

i was driving the car

WorraLiberty · 15/03/2014 16:14

I couldn't give a fucking fuckety fuck about fucking expletives Grin

StarGazeyPond · 15/03/2014 16:16

The car has got brakes, I presume? Why didn't you stop?

Thumbwitch · 15/03/2014 16:16

Where I used to live in the UK, we had a few areas that were thickly planted with daffs of various types, and a big council notice telling people that they were not to be picked. I'm sure some people still did - but at least they were aware that they were doing something wrong when they did it.

Sparklingbrook · 15/03/2014 16:20

I don't think i would stop the car and get out to row over the daffs. Maybe honking the horn with an appropriate face/hand gesture. Grin

SergeantJarhead · 15/03/2014 16:23

YANBU Op, I saw a man come out of a pub with his family once, it was roughly midnight and I'd finished work, he not only pulled out flowers from a roadside plant area but the entire bloody roots too >:{
I gave him a right mouthful but he didn't mind as he knows me ... grr.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 15/03/2014 16:23

There was a very heated thread about this last year. Including a lot of moaning about the killjoys who don't understand the great fun there is to be had in nicking stuff.

diamondlizard · 15/03/2014 16:23

well i would have honked and shouted oi, but by the time i had properly registered what she was doing , we had gone way past her

Jellymum1 · 15/03/2014 16:24

I hate this too! And when people let their little kids do it!

Sparklingbrook · 15/03/2014 16:24

I thought there was LRD did it get really derailed?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 15/03/2014 16:26

I'm hazy on the details. I think it was just a lot of arguing because some people think if flowers are there for everyone to 'enjoy,' then it's your right to pick just a few. Or that you shouldn't stop your children doing it because their delicate little souls might be crushed by criticism.

Sparklingbrook · 15/03/2014 16:28

It definitely rings a bell LRD

Phalarope · 15/03/2014 16:29

I chased after a young couple this week in the park who'd picked a massive bunch of daffs, apparently as a romantic gesture in the spring sunshine. Was expecting a mouthful but they were actually apologetic and slightly bewildered that it wasn't a pick-your-own flowerbed. I'd already chickened out of berating the ferocious-looking owner of a ferocious-looking dog which took a crap on the path - being stroppy about flowers seemed the easier option for an amateur killjoy. Possibly I need to find a nicer park.

diamondlizard · 15/03/2014 16:30

well i guess i would have felt differently if it was a child picking one, rather than a grown up picking a massive bunch

OP posts:
copafeel · 15/03/2014 16:31

I laugh when I see people picking them cos my dogs piss on them twice a day every day and they aren't the only ones lol

SpocksThirdEar · 15/03/2014 16:31

One of my colleagues told me she does this! I was Shock She says she takes a supermarket bag so she can pretend she's bought them.

I tell my kids never ever to pick them, to imagine what it would look like if everyone went and picked a bunch each.

HadABadDay2014 · 15/03/2014 16:50

I allow DD to pick wild flowers in the woods, now worried I have done some thing wrong.

But daffodils sound be left to admire or bought

Thumbwitch · 15/03/2014 16:50

Well exactly, Spocks!
EVeryone who does this seems to think it won't matter, no one will notice - but they forget that they are unlikely to be the only one who is going to do this. Lots of people do it --> no more daffodils!

I used to go to Hampton Court to see the daff fields every year, and took DS1 whenever we were in the UK - he knows full well not to touch them!

Thumbwitch · 15/03/2014 16:52

HadaBadDay, I think it depends on whether or not it's private land, as to whether or not you can pick them. Wild flowers aren't quite in the same category as daffs, which have been planted specifically by the council.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/03/2014 16:55

This drives me nuts.

There are protected bluebell woods near me and they're gorgeous in May, folk travel miles to see it.

The amount of parents who let their precious little fuckers pick them is ridiculous.

There's even signs up saying not to let your dog run through them.
