not really into celebrity and that crap

a friend of mine her partner deals with them all the time interviews them for his work

they are usually promoting a film or something so 99 percent of time what they have o say is really boring, towing the party line and all that

yet this guy always expects everyone to be really impressed, there could be say ten in a pub having a meal and a chat about allsorts

in the middle of a nice chat, then he kinda interupts and says oh i interviewed so and so last week .......

expecting everyone to say oh cool
what was he/she like what did they say and be impressed
when really all they are doing is promoting their crap

I'm currently in a similar situation, although with this person it is not celebs as such but people who are very influential in the business arena in which she works, she constantly refers 'to so and so who is head of such and such and a great friend said to me......' I have no clue who any of these people are, I just smile and nod and make appropriate conversational noises (I'm not actually required to say anything, just to listen to her ramblings) - in my head I'm thinking 'put a sock in it' but apart from this trait she's a nice woman so I don't want to be rude to her.

I think, in fact in her case I'm sure, it stems from lack of confidence, she needs to big herself up a bit, and having fairly limited confidence myself I can sympathise with the different ways people deal with it.

I never have heard of that sort of celeb (no TV here) so saying "who?" "What are they known for?" "No, definitely not heard of them" usually stops that dead in it's tracks.
