to think my sons teacher judges me

DS in year one is not doing well in school by all accounts. The school have him on 'intervention' for everything and now have a literacy coordinator working with him alone. I am pleased he has the help but also sad that he needs it.

We read at home every day and do sums etc but I feel I have let him down. The teacher is nice but I an convinced they judge me for how my son is doing. Aibu?

Another teacher here. I certainly would not judge a parent for their child's academic abilities. Keep up the great work at home (teachers love parents who help at home!) If your school offer any numeracy or literacy open afternoons or evenings, go to those so you can make sure you are teaching him the way the school is (we have lots of different methods from the way you and I were taught). More and more important as he goes further up the school.

Try to focus on the positive, yes he is struggling a bit now but the school are doing all they can to help him with that, he'll make lots of progress I'm sure. Also, although academic support is vital at home, don't go overboard with if, you may have a future Olympic gymnast or the next David Hockney on your hands, let him find his talent, we all have them Smile

On a side note - I might judge a parent if their child were a rude little pain, but again, never on their academic ability.
