i had an interveiw today, i didnt know the times or days untill the end.

i knew it was 15 hours, it goes well etc. the hours are 2.30 to 5.30 mon to friday. the only good thing is no weekends. but no real chance of over time on weekly chance.

im returning to work after a long gap, its only at a reatail store doing till work ..so its not like a carea that would have me earnign loads.

my problem is i need 16 hours to get working tax. and childcare help. which i wont get. with after school care during term time i will be £40 a month better off and ill be happier

but is it worth it? off course i can and would want a second job to up the hours but the shft and days make it harder to find a 2nd job to fit in with that. i cant work weekend or nights as im a single mum, the kids dont see thier dad and my rents would not help out babysitting. which makes it a little tricker.

so wwyd?? would you accept the offer of the job. ? i reeaally want to work, i think it'll help with my depression and anxity so much and half of me is thinking its a job. you can always look for more jobs whilst in work. but the other side is telling me that to hold out till one that fits better.

i have a second interveiw next week for a agency.

my anxity is playing havoic, so would quite like ot hear what other think/would do?

Take the job! I run an employability programme for lone parents and work closely with the job centre. It is going to get tougher for line parents to stay on benefits and this job sounds like a good stepping stone. You can look at avon to make the hours up to 16.

hamptoncourt · 11/03/2014 20:07

yes you can claim for 16 hours a week and say the extra hour is cleaning/shopping/dogwalking you do for an elderly person. Don't forget to increase your income figure by an appropriate amount though.

wonderingsoul · 11/03/2014 20:25

thank you, would i need paper work or contract with the cleaning? off course ill put down the right income, i wouldnt have the nerve for benift fraud, other than it being agasint the law its more then my nervous could take lol.

thank you im feeling alot more posative about it all now Smile

It's not Next is it?
I'm sure there was something on the TV fairly recently about them employing a significant proportion of staff at 15 hours and being very reluctant to increase people's hours.

wonderingsoul · 12/03/2014 07:27

no it's not next, think more books and staionairy

If you do do some self employed hours you just need to declare them to hmrc and tax credits people.....dog walking would work...its easy to organise with the offices and they are helpful.x

AtSea1979 · 12/03/2014 07:39

No u wouldn't need contract etc for dog walking, just as Bumpy said, u need to ring hmrc, that's all.

notthegirlnextdoor · 12/03/2014 09:02

Its now 24 hours work before you can claim working tax credits however if you work less than that you still get housing benefit and council tax benefit paid in full.

wonderingsoul · 12/03/2014 10:59

notthegirl.. its 24 hours for couples.. its still 16 hours for single parentsx

im going dow the cleanig for a friend for an hour route i think.

How close is the job to school? Is there somewhere close enough that you could work as a midday supervisor?

Then you would have an extra 5 or 6 hours a week, the mornings (almost free) and the extra work would be term time only.

StrawberryGashes · 12/03/2014 15:43

I got my tax credits form through today and it says on it that it's still 16 hours for couples too.

jellybeans · 12/03/2014 15:47

I don't know how old your DC are but I would hang on for the 16 hrs I think and also look for school hours or early hours (and use morning club) so I could pick DC up.

MizTiggle · 12/03/2014 15:52

Something like Avon?

ThatBloodyWoman · 12/03/2014 15:52

Take the job, then ask for increased hours.
You are better in one job than 2 or 3 imo.

I spent a long time not paying ni contributions like this, plus it can be tricky when it comes to holidays and childcare to be too 'spread out' (nurseries often charge by the session).
