to think that free school meals aren't at ALL tempting now this has happened?

So next year infant children are all set to receive free school meals...right. We're always talking on MN about the school lunch police and about how school meals aren't all that...I mean many are quite disgusting.

However, I was thinking that it was a good thing for many people...free school lunch is great for those who don't quite qualify but still struggle...then I read this... Health Rules for school lunches scrapped

It's a Daily Fail link so don't click it if you hate them...but have a google about for a better version of this. They're removing the guidelines on sugar, minerals and fat content...so I suppose we will be back to Turkey Twizzlers then.

I won't be taking advantage of the free school meals for sure.

penguin it is not a case of dont like it....more a case of none of it is good enough. I would happily pay for good lunches.

DD's first primary school had no kitchen, so everyone took a packed lunch, and there were no lunchbox police.

Her second school you could either have school dinners or take a packed lunch. I can remember one letter from the head in which they went on about how fabulous the lunches were because they didn't have chips.

But, they had potato faces! How they thought that a mass-produced re-hashed fat-absorbing potato product was better than a chip that started out in the school kitchen as a potato, God alone knows.

Her third primary school had the menus published outside the school and were cooked from scratch in the school kitchen. Starter, main course and pudding. Surprising? No, not in rural France.

Our school is still trying to figure out the logistics of having to cook that much extra food ,our newsletter says it's going to be for reception,YR1 and YR2 so they don't even have the right amount of equpment at the moment.
