To ask how to not shout?

DC are 4.5 and 3. By bedtime, they're bouncing off the walls and each other. Screaming, running, jumping, throwing things. They don't LISTEN to me. I have to ask two dozen times to put your pyjamas on please or come and clean your teeth. They ignore me. They roll around on the floor so I have to wrestle their pyjamas on. They run away.

I end up shouting and I hate it and myself. My blood pressure must be through the roof.

What am I doing wrong?

Establish a bedtime routine so they know what to expect each night

Set a timer to give them time to plan - when the bells goes off, it'll be time to .........

Divide and conquer - try to deal with one child at a time

Focus on "Well done for .............." instead of "stop doing .............."

2 stars and a wish "Well done for doing A & B, tomorrow I'd like you to concentrate on C"

I have two the same age. Sometimes I find after asking multiple times and threatening with not reading stories etc, if I just leave the room and tell them to let me know when they are ready for bed, I am going downstairs, that works pretty well in terms of getting them to respond and giving us all some breathing space.
