In that case, yadnbu :)

SauvignonBlanche · 05/03/2014 18:45

YANBU, I was excited by a new Aldi opening down the road and am dying to see the building of our new Waitrose progress.

TheTerribleBaroness · 06/03/2014 09:34

ThanksaMillion I hope you're driving! I can tell you about Dutch, German and Spanish Lidls if you want to know what to buy, as the stock varies. Alternatively there are so many threads on it, MN should have a separate topic! Grin

thanksamillion · 06/03/2014 10:46

Oh yes! And we have a big Galaxy so plenty of space! It's a Romanian one so who knows what the stock is apart from me who's be checking out the website

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/03/2014 10:50

I was unreasonably excited at Waitrose opening in John Lewis Bluewater (I still love it)
There was one about 4 miles away but it only lasted a year, it didn't feel right.

I am now unreasonably excited about Home Bargains opening soon in town Grin

TheTerribleBaroness · 06/03/2014 13:17

Ooooooh! You must post back and tell us what they had! :)

pigsDOfly · 06/03/2014 13:22

Many years ago we had a huge Tesco open where I lived at the time. Got there early and bought a really nice dishwasher half price.

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2014 13:22

Ooh is it this weekend ABH? About time too. Sick of Tesco Express. Angry

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/03/2014 14:47

In the post today was a My Waitrose card that I ordered Grin

I can feel the urge to splurge (after checking that the nearest one has a coffee shop of course)

Chelvis · 06/03/2014 15:50

The ALDI opening in my town was the biggest news in years. There were huge queues starting at 7.30pm the night before with people camping, fist fights in the car park ... literally everyone local I have spoken to this week has asked 'have you been yet?'. It's crazy!

But I was there on opening day, so I can't say anything Grin

Chippednailvarnish · 06/03/2014 17:01

I'm clearly weird, a new supermarket opening is my idea of hell...

There's a new Aldi opening near me at the end of the month. I am worryingly excitied.

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2014 17:13

Chipped if you live where ABH and I do you would be wildly excited believe me. Grin Nothing exciting ever happens round here.......

thanksamillion · 06/03/2014 18:05

I'm with you Sparkling. I live 120km from the nearest supermarket so it is still quite sad very exciting for me Grin

Chippednailvarnish · 06/03/2014 19:23

Mmm, maybe I've been in London too long!

TheTerribleBaroness · 06/03/2014 21:20

Yep, highlights were I live over the past few years have included a tractor doing 40kph in a 30 zone, a cow giving her 1000th litre of milk, and a garden shed burning down and damaging some tools. These all made the front page. A supermarket opening is a family day out and will be talked about for weeks.

ApocalypticBlackHorseman · 06/03/2014 21:23

Sparkling it's open now, and the petrol was 'only' 127.
The fridges had broken though, and they opened late.

Was there a sleb opening? What did I miss?

Chippednailvarnish · 06/03/2014 22:26

I'm clearly an idiot, I had no idea that records of how much milk each particular cow gives were kept.

And the last thing I saw burning down, was a house, after a friends DS committed arson Sad

PicaK · 06/03/2014 22:48

We had a new Sainsbury's open near us last year. It's lovely. Great parking, wide aisles - so much room - plenty of trolleys. It's a joy to visit.

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2014 22:55

We had a new Asda in the next town open about 2 years ago. The car park was so badly designed it was taking 45 minutes to get out. Stupid multi storey with the up and down ramps next to one another. I still find it terrifying now.

divegirl77 · 07/03/2014 06:11

There was massive hype in Cheltenham when Wholefoods opened. It's been open 1 and bit years and the novelty of paying over the odds for ultra trendy yummy mummy organic wheatgerm has been clearly been lost on the local population.

Sparklingbrook · 07/03/2014 06:46

Oooh posh divegirl. I don't think they will be opening here any time soon. Grin

ApocalypticBlackHorseman · 07/03/2014 06:50

Sparkling no, not a lot. Guest appearance by lots of traffic cones blocking the entrance and a sign saying that all petrol pumps that have long hoses that reach both sides of the cars. They don't!
