well, hate is a bit strong.
but just came out of my bath and am now covered in turquoise fluff looking a bit like a mouldy fish finger and it feels just wrong
it's all in my hair as well.
at least they were fluffy...

I'm glad everyone else has problems with new towels not getting you dry .... Thought it was just me buying the wrong sort of towels all these years Grin

I wonder how many washes are needed to make them less shedding?

semi fluffy towels (no softener but tumble dried) would be my ideal.

my mil is the same, she uses litres of softeners and the towels are lovely to touch but will not get you dry. ^and their bathroom has neither window nor fan so airdrying is not really an option either.

you are so NBU about new towels. I just invested in some from John Lewis, as the ones we were using were wedding presents 21 yrs ago and all the edges have gone. I hate them, they are smaller (even though still bath sheets) and they dont dry you properly. FTR, I dont fab cond towels but I do tumble dry.

i've never noticed new towels shedding as such, maybe i've been lucky, but DP notes that his tummy button fluff changes colour for a while

it's the softness and lack of absorbency i don't like. i love the almost threadbare cardboardy old ones from my parents' airing cupboard - crisp and clean and get you properly dry

Yes, yes, yes to hard towels - you can actually use them for their intended purpose, not just to look good on the towel rail... Smile

I've never used fabric conditioner as both DD and I have very sensitive/dry skin - yet actually we both like a good scrub dry with a nice crunchy towel, and our skin seems happier for it Hmm

If I have to buy new towels I wash them six times before use - once with detergent and then several times with just water and a hot wash - which seems to get rid of the worst of the fluff and softness....and in about another 5 years they are just right...! Grin

Can't be doing with soft towels. Rough, spartan towels are where it's at.

dh and I just had a good laugh at the turquoise snow in the bathroom.
