Please read here. It is quite long, but the title will intrigue you - The Indian sanitary pad revolutionary

I would probably re-name it "Necessity is the mother of invention" Grin

I read it earlier today and was struck - his story will stay with me for a long time. A truly good person whose actions have had far-reaching effects.

KnockMeDown · 04/03/2014 10:02

He overcame so much - poverty, lack of education, ridicule, ostracism, and his invention is now empowering women, not only in their personal health, but giving them jobs, and the opportunity to send their own children to school.

And he is not interested in profiting from this. So humbling!

It is an amazing story. I think he should get an honorary knighthood. Shall we start a petition for that?

TwelveLeggedWalk · 04/03/2014 12:02

The statistics of how lack of decent sanitary products affects women's health and education are staggering aren't they?

I have to say, it's something I've often wondered about. Same with nappies too.

Amazing how something so small and simple can transform the lives of so many women. Brilliant, dedicated man.

HypodeemicNerdle · 04/03/2014 12:35

What an awesome man. It takes some serious dedication to wear a fake womb and he's achieved something amazing despite all the challenges

Anonymai · 04/03/2014 12:41

He is very inspirational. And it has made me think how much I take for granted with regard to periods!

ALMOSTMRSG · 04/03/2014 19:42

A really inspirational story. I won't take basic hygiene for granted again.

Oh, I've read this before, I think he's fantastic.

Pimpf · 04/03/2014 19:51

It makes you realise how much we take for granted, or I do anyway

CeliaLytton · 04/03/2014 19:59

YANBU. Sanitary provision in poorer countries is something that has always played on my mind after reading about the lack of it years ago and the superstitions around menstruating. He is inspiring, an amazing man.

Caitlin17 · 04/03/2014 20:02

Good thread. I saw it on BBC website and wondered if anyone would mention it.

Marylou2 · 04/03/2014 20:03

Marvelous story.I'm in tears, what an amazing man.

Helpyourself · 04/03/2014 20:06

I saw this earlier. Inspirational but utterly depressing figures about the risks of rubbish sanpro.

Marylou2 · 04/03/2014 20:18

Also thought that mooncups would be brilliant if cost is an issue but I imagine that there might be many cultural barriers to this in many poor countries that I know nothing of.

iloveweetos · 04/03/2014 20:20

Such an amazing guy

AlpacaPicnic · 04/03/2014 20:20

I read this and had to wipe away a tear at the end.
A true inspiration. He deserves an honour.

buddyfingy · 04/03/2014 20:23

JennySense · 04/03/2014 20:48

I read this earlier today and I thought it was amazing on every level. From solving a problem to helping women earn their own money. It would make a great film!

TimeToThinkOfYourFuture · 04/03/2014 20:53

Just saw this and did a search to see if there was a thread. So inspirational!

BurningBridges · 04/03/2014 20:57

So glad you posted this; what an amazing story - I'm just speechless, everything he went through just to help women, in a country where women are regarded as disposable. Definitely think someone will make it into a film!!
