To think that if the AA

Will teach young people to drive then they should be prepared to insure them when they pass their test. Wont touch them not even for mega bucks!
Any ideas on who to insure my DD with?

Bell direct and I agree if the AA teach them to drive they should insure them.

Insured my DS19 with Aviva - they were by far the cheapest.
Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec cost around £880

Churchill were always the best for me when I first passed. In fact, they were the best every time I renewed.

Yes, it does!

I entered the info on Aviva's website after doing all the comparison websites. Aviva were the cheapest for what we needed.
Left it a while, and the Aviva man phoned me, after a bit of a chat, we got Fully Comprehensive insurance, DS19 is the main driver with me and DH as extra drivers, commuting and business use. DS is a legal cashier.

Interestingly, smaller cars like Ford Ka's and Toyota Aygo types, which we thought would be the cheapest for a new driver were a lot more expensive - maybe because we went for a car not really meant as a first car made it cheaper?

Try them and see, but let them ring you back then you can negotiate.

We insured DS with Tesco insurance - it seems quite good compared to others. I've heard Aviva is good too.

I went with Elephant.co.uk when I passed my test, they were the cheapest by far for me.

Also, confirming the point about car choice - I had a Toyota MR2. 2-litre, 173 bhp, 2 seater, fairly fast, fairly sporty thing. Was a lot cheaper to insure than the 1.2 litre Fiesta I also looked at!

And it does appear to be much cheaper to insure a car not generally associated with young drivers. Friends dd had 1l cords when she was learning once she passed was too expensive to insure. She ended up with a megane I think which was cheaper to insure and a much bigger car and engine.

Yes, policy in his name with zero no claims. He only passed his test last August, got car in October. For comparison, I think the Toyota Aygo, which is under 1l engine, was around £1400 to insure.

As an aside, I told my DS that Aviva had insisted he drive with those green 'P' plates for 3 months.... he accepted that and did - people gave him a bit more leeway than they would have if he hadn't had them.

Try Carrot Insurance. I work for them and they specialise in young drivers, there are lots of benefits. Give them a Google and it will tell you all you need to know
