as it looks like DH and will never agree on a name for our new baby DD and will both have to compromise and decide on a name which is both way down on our lists. Our surname also rules out others which we do agree on

Will I get used to the name? Will it become DDs name? Questions, questions. I always thought I would automatically call our DCs my favourite name, but no.

The name we're thinking of is nice but not one of my absolute favourites. Does it matter? Your thoughts please.

Broken- I love Archie, its such a cheeky name, and nothing wrong with that, extra character Wink

BarbarianMum · 03/03/2014 14:25

We both loved ds1's name, ds2's was a favorite of mine (dh liked it but not as keen). We didn't agree at all on girls names though, so no idea what would have happened had we had one!

Slapntickleothewenches · 03/03/2014 14:26

No, my favourite name was shared by a notorious drunk in the village, famous for setting light to his house when drunk and accosting young women walking by. It didn't seem appropriate to use that name as it's quite unusual.
Anyway I used it as a second name and DS hates it :o

JonSnowsPout · 03/03/2014 14:30

One has my first choice and the other has dp's

We both liked the names though.

Nocomet · 03/03/2014 14:33

DD1 yes, Her name was choosen when I was a teen and I found out my great aunt had a nice second name (even she hated her first name).

DD2, no it was DH's turn and my other favorite name is an ex GF of his.

Nocomet · 03/03/2014 14:34

Not that I mind DD2's name at all, it suits her and goes better with DD1 than my choice.

Innogen · 03/03/2014 14:36

Dd is my fave name of all time.

Next one won't be so easy. We currently each have a top ten list and only one name appears on both lists, but we don't love it in the same way I love DDs.

FruitbatAuntie · 03/03/2014 14:36

No, I have two boys and never really had a favourite boy's name. I struggled to choose one for DS1 -we had a shortlist that we argued over lots before finally picking one as it was getting embarrassing that he didn't have a name yet!

With DS2, I actually did have one name that I loved more than any other, but exP totally vetoed it and said he hated it. So I went for number two on the list, even though exP hated that too and said it was a pet dog's name (wtf?)!

GreenLandsOfHome · 03/03/2014 14:36

With ds1 we both loved the names.

With ds2, DH absolutely vetoed my favourite name because he hated it. So we chose a name that we were both 'ok' with.

It doesn't matter. Ds2 is now ds2 and I can't imagine calling him anything else.

SaucyJack · 03/03/2014 14:36

DD1 has.

BackforGood · 03/03/2014 14:50

dh and I like similar names, so yes, it was pretty easy to choose their names, but my sis and her dh have really different ideas, so ended up with compromises on both parts for all 3 of theirs. None of them are names I particularly like, but they very soon just become the dd/ds (or in my case dn) that you love dearly, and it is just their name, not a 'hypothetical' choice, so, as long as you don't hate them, then yes, I think you'll soon forget they weren't your favourite.

JuniperTisane · 03/03/2014 15:02

DS1 has our only choice. DS2 we had to work hard to think of, but it suits him so in the end it worked out fine.

CPtart · 03/03/2014 16:55

Ds1 yes, still my fave name too.
DS2 has my second favourite boys name.

Lucky that DH and I agreed.

PowderMum · 03/03/2014 17:03

I had chosen DD1 name a few years before I thought about ttc and DH liked it too.

For DD2 we settled on 2 names we liked and let DD1 choose the one she preferred (the other one is her middle name)

We were really struggling with boys names fortunately we didn't have a DS

DarlingGrace · 03/03/2014 17:04

No. sometimes your favourite name would just be utterly inappropriate.

"oi, Spartacus, c'm'ere" - just doesnt have a ring to it does it?

Teutonic King, Biblical, Biblical.

I wanted Teutonic King, Scots King, Medieval King

I only use proper, mainstream, establishment names.

weeblueberry · 03/03/2014 17:05

Nope DD's name wasn't my favourite. Wasn't even top 3!!

My favourite name DP didn't really like, second name was one of his family members names and the third ended in O which is the beginning of DPs surname. So didn't use any of them!

He's said my favourite can be used for the next one though but I think he's bluffing because he's got a feeling the next one will be a boy ;)

Snatchoo · 03/03/2014 17:08

Yes, we totally agreed for our twins they were favourites for us both.

DS3 I wanted Thomas but DH said no. I'm happy with his name, it was my top choice I changed my mind about a minute before giving birth. DH doesn't like Thomas for a valid reason which I now forget.
