WIBU to send my taxi receipt to Odeon and ask them to pay it?

I went to the Odeon at Whitleys today with my charges and twisted my ankle. There is a weird little ridge on the floor. like a tiny tiny step - no more than an inch high.

It runs the length of the wide hall and tbh I'm not sure why the floor isn't just gradually sloped confused

I was stood near it, not realising it was there, and slipped off it when I turned - twisting my ankle quite badly. It's now swollen and bruised.

I struggled to walk to the tube station (about 3/4 of a mile) so flagged a cab to take me to St Pancras. The taxi driver wrote me a receipt and advised that I send it to the centre asking that the pay for it.

I don't want to sue, that'd be ridiculous and petty and I don't think I even have a case! But the taxi cost me £24 which I wouldn't normally have to take.

WIBU to take the taxi drivers advise and send it to them?

The HSE advises

Are there any subtle changes in floor level, eg slopes, small steps, abrupt changes from one flooring material to another?

Highlight hazard – improve lighting, use eye-catching colour on slope/step, clearly highlight change from one flooring material to another.

They should have identified the hazard and in their position I would be grateful you are only asking for your taxi fare

Yabu. Accidents happen. You should have been aware of your surroundings

WorraLiberty · 03/03/2014 00:02

Unless you alerted a member of staff at the actual time, you don't have a leg to stand on.

Pun intended because I think it's petty to claim the cab money back.

I'm guessing hundreds if not thousands of other people managed to stay upright?

Even if it's caught on CCTV, you could have been drunk for all they know. If you'd spoken to staff at the time, they may have been able to assess your condition.

Unpleasant taxi charge for 3/4 mile, really?

AchyFox · 03/03/2014 00:17

The way you describe this ninja-ridge people would be tripping up every 5 minutes and they'd be getting dozens of complaints a week.

Any more details about ninja-ridge at Whitleys ?

I took a taxi to the train station as I'd have to get to the tube and do the stairs a fair a fair walk between two tube stations and then stairs again.

You really should have had it recorded at the time.

DebbieFiderer · 03/03/2014 07:41

Was it in the actual cinema our just outside in the centre? If the latter then need to deal with the centre rather than the cinema, but if it was in the cinema I would write a pleasant letter explaining the situation and suggesting that they look at it to see if it can be made less hazardous. You probably won't get your taxi refunded, but knowing Odeon, you may well get a couple of cinema passes which at central London prices is the same value.

VivaLeBeaver · 03/03/2014 07:49

Its not strictly true about if you haven't alerted anyone at the time you can't do anything.

I broke my back in a gym and walked out rather than tell anyone (embarrassed as I was sobbing in pain). I sued later on and they never mentioned the fact I hadn't told them at the time. Before the days of swipe cards as well so I had no way of proving I was there.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 03/03/2014 07:50

I think it's worth a complaint if it was in the cinema rather than outside in a shopping centre. They won't keep their CCTV for very long, so do it now. I don't think your failure to speak to someone while you were there is fatal to your complaint. I think them paying for your taxi is a proportionate response to their trip hazard.
