He was Barry, but i've called him Rudis... I'm not English, and i called him so he reminds me of my homeland (Rudis is a common dogs name there)... And so i show that i love him that he's part of my family

Not at all - he does not have a concept of it being 'his name' in the way that he'll be sad about you changing it, only that he responds to those sounds, so as long as you ease him in (try saying the name in the same tone) and use it a LOT whilst interacting with him early on he'll be fine I'm sure.

Always bemuses me when people give animals normal people names, animlas are the only time I get to call something Phoenix and get away with it...

Mine is Murphy Moriarty McManus (Murphy McManus after the Boondock Saints character, Moriarty because it quickly became apparent he's an evil genius) however, Murphy is Murph, Smurf, Murphy Moo, Moo, Poo etc

Our last scottie dog was called Jack. He did literally answer to anything, but much like Miaows dog didn't answer to any form of 'get down' at all. We used to joke when the vet put a poster up advising that the dog tags didn't have a name on so anyone stealing the dog could call it, that it wouldn't make a difference with Jack because they could happily shout 'OI!' and he'd come, tail wagging.

Our dog was called Milly when we got her, but changed it to Tilly as dd1s friend was called Millie. I thought a similar name was better than changing it completely but as long as you understand that he may take a while to get used to it, im sure it will be fine.

Our dog is called Butch. He is 9 and has been butch all his life so when we rescued him last year it seemed a bit sad to change his name. It does quite suit him, as he is a black and white Staffie, but people do a bit of a double take when my little quite upmarket voice is calling out to him!
