I've got a little baby girl now and I don't want to bring her up in london, I love london but I feel she would have a better childhood out of london.... Do you think this is fair to say?
Where In UK is nice to live for young family life that doesn't get affected by flooding or near an airport.
Is it reasonable to think I could find somewhere affordable with the requirements above?

the volume, scale, quality and diversity of them is something you only get in London. I think there are fantastic art galleries in Liverpool and museums in Manchester but there are just SO MANY more in London

I don't get this as one of the 'benefits' of raising kids in London. If you're a couple, really into museums etc...yeah you may spend a lot of time there. Sightseers, again, you immerse yourself in them for a few days.

But realistically, how much time does a family with dc spend in these galleries and museums? The way most Londoners on mn go on, you'd think that they are a daily excursion, which for the majority, I highly doubt is the case.

I love a museum, I've taken the dc to a few (child friendly) in the past. But the quality of museums and galleries wouldn't be on my list of essentials when considering where to live.

"Teenagers don't usually want to be stuck out in the sticks"

Depends if they have been moved out of a city or not.

Born and have lived all my life here (Cornwall), very content as a teenager. and would never consider moving to a small town let alone somewhere huge like London.

Violet Hare, I go to museums, parks, historic houses, galleries etc on at least a weekly basis. The benefits are they are often child friendly, free, have nice cafés or eating areas often where you can bring your own food, enjoyable for adults and kids with plenty of space to run around and activities for them. Most people who live here have tiny or no gardens.

I guess you've answered your own question. People who live in London are probably the type of people who enjoy that sort of thing. Just as people who live in Newquay are the type to enjoy surfing. I wouldn't be going around telling them that surfing is just as good in London so I find it a bit odd that people think that Museums outside London are just as good when clearly they are not. Smile
