AIBU about this twitter name?

AIBU to think that "silverfox" is not a suitable twitter handle for a Head Teacher's twitter account? Male. His students follow him. His school retweets him.

I don't know, there's just something mildly uncomfortable about the whole thing.

Have name changed for obvious reasons.

Why is he connected with his students on Twitter? I thought that most schools were anti that?

ouryve · 27/02/2014 22:39

what's wrong with using his real name as a fine upstanding member of the community and role model

Many people on Twitter have their usually far from unique real name and unique twitter name visible. Still don't get your problem.

Diamondcassis · 27/02/2014 22:43

But is he a silver fox? In terms of looks I mean. If absolutely not, would be meaningless, if so, he has more confidence than most.

Botanicbaby · 27/02/2014 22:43

Grin at usual

sorry OP, not everyone is aware of the connotations of 'silverfox' in the sense you are thinking of and it sounds like it's use is perfectly innocent here. Why else would the school RT him? Are his tweets worth reading? Why shouldn't the students follow him on twitter?

I think you are getting your knickers in a twist over nothing.

Botanicbaby · 27/02/2014 22:52

oh and he's hardly 'hiding behind a nickname' is he?

as PP have said, it's quite difficult to get your real name on twitter unless you registered back in the early days.

@charmschool [laugh] im so sorry but i think its an amazing twitter handle.

Somerford · 02/01/2018 03:33

Using it as his own twitter name comes across as a bit vain and immature

I don't know this man but I very much doubt it's intended as an assertion of how good looking he considers himself to be. In all likelihood it's probably self-depreciating faux-vanity to make people laugh. Although we're having this discussion on a forum which requires users to preface any jokes with "light hearted" in capital letters so let's just take it at face value and villify him for it, the arrogant bastard.
