"cultural awareness" IQ test for 7 year old

So we were advised that our 7yr old should have his IQ tested as he isn't doing well in school - we do not live in the UK, where I'm sure IQ tests for children went out with the ark. Did test today, and part of test involved "cultural awareness" questions. How on earth is that connected with IQ, but even if it is, am I unreasonable to think that it is perfectly normal that my 7 yr old couldn't answer the following questions: Where is the Louvre? What did the Pharoahs build? Who were the ancient Greeks? There is another ludicrous one that I forget now.

I am a Classicist with a degree and a PhD and all sorts of things and I would struggle to answer the question "who were the ancient Greeks". Sounds like the title of a (fairly crappy) television series. Who were they indeed? Now if you asked "what is an aorist" or "who was Peisistratos"I could come up with a relatively intelligent answer.

As for "what did the Paraohs build", I can see my 7yo self taking great pleasure in enumerating palaces and temples and cities, just to annoy the teacher, or alternatively pointing out that they didn't build things at all- they had people in to do that sort of thing for them.

Reminds me of ds' CM who thought he might have a language delay because he did not know the word for the goat's baby. I refrained from pointing out that we don't have all that many goats in our part of town, but that ds would certainly be able to tell a mallard from a moorhen and that I thought on the level of linguistic complexity that must be at least equally valid.

I asked ds2, his answers were, what is a louvre, pyramids duh! and erm, err I don't know, Hercules?

Not sure what that says about his iq

A lot of learning difficulties are assessed on the basis of comparing iq with a perceived deficit. Dyslexia for example is identified in students whose read/write skills don't match their general iq. I can safely say my dd for example would know the answers to the questions you posed aged 7 but she was still struggling to blend sounds.
