Can 6 year ok to watch if I sit with her and skip anything too graphic. Dd is desperate to see it!

Quite educational, in my opinion.

I think Ch 4 bleep out the swearing and there's no gore. They blank out the vulva area and any blood.

There was definitely blood on last nights episode. Not blanked out at all including a blood soaked pillow and a member of staff holding it up.

I would let her watch it though as long as you talk it through and turn it off if it gets too much.

I watch it with my dd but she is 11. I always watch on my own beforehand as she often needs an explanation or discussion so I want to be prepared.
We treat it as educational as both my dd's want to be present for the birth of dc3 so I want her to see the scary bits and know it isn't always as bad as it looks.

I would, one of my pet hates is when parent sugar coat where babies come from and how they are born.

My 5 year old has watched it. It's only blood. She also feeds my snakes, helps prepare meat for dinner and has been involved in her brothers medical care (including blood sugar taking and tube feeding). TBH I think a lot of Disney movies have much scarier things in them to a 5 year old. She scared of monsters, bears and evil-looking women - blood and dead things, she's fine.

I was thinking about this the other day. Both my two have seen lambs being born (they are 3 and 6), so I suppose this isn't too different. My only worry would be if they would find the screaming etc distressing.

I think you need to pre watch and be mindful of what you show her

I let dd watch a calm birth in there when she was 3 she was fascinated, and she is easily scared . Tbh I don't think the traumatic ones/ lots of swearing should be seen by anyone who's never had a baby regardless of age. ......

Ds loves obem! He's only just turned 9, but ever since I've been pregnant, he's watched it at least once a week. It's educational innit? He does get annoyed by the out of control screaming women though, and he favours the funny, grumpy ones.

dd has watched loads of homebirths online (I google or youtube quiet homebirth) and she loves it.. But i probably wouldn't let them watch OBEM as you can see more traumatic births and screaming and I don't think it's good to have young children children taught to be scared of birth.

So she gets the educational bit but none of the nightmare inducing side iyswim?

I wouldn't let her watch a 'screamer'. I saw a rerun the other day where the mother continued to scream after an epidural despite saying she couldn't feel anything. I think a young child would find that bit distressing. But certainly one of the more calm ones could prove to be very educational. Just be prepared for the questions.

tbh I would say no

I developed an absolute phobia / terror of birth because of watching an awful gory screaming birth video at school, and it has affected me as an adult to the point where I have had to have all my dc via elcs

having said that though, I also agree don't sugar coat where babies come from, but as others have said I would maybe look for a calm "easy" birth on you tube rather than OBEM

There are lots of old episodes on 4OD and You Tube etc so maybe watch a few first and chose a nice calm one for her to watch. Sometimes there can be a bit too much screaming, blood or occasionally scary "baby in distress" bits which might be a bit much for a young child. But nothing wrong with letting them see the reality of a birth (just not too real if you see what I mean!)
