Dogs wee

Is it UR of me to let my dog (toy breed) wee on a piece of public land at the end of my street. It's basically a huge mud area (will hopefully be turfed when they finish building the estate) with a few saplings growing there, not directly outside anyone's house, and it's open and public use land.

(N.B. I ALWAYS pick up dog poo and and permanently have a pocket full of bags for this)

He's an idiot with too much time on his hands.
My small dog is a neutered male but still cocks his leg up every tree, bush and lamp post we pass.
I don't know if I could stop him on commandGrin

If this is going to be a grassed over area when all the houses are finished ..........
perhaps he doesn't fancy living next to the local dog's loo.

WeAllHaveWings · 24/02/2014 17:33

The grass in my garden is destroyed from our dog peeing on it.

Maybe he doesn't want the same?

I don't let our dog pee on other peoples grass (by walking past quickly and saying NO if he pulls over for the sniff before the pee), but do slow down and let him go in public area's.

Conference - it's a public area, and it was a wee, like I said I pick up all dog poo every time. I think that's just something you have to suck up when you buy a house next to an open space, and it seems most of mumsnet agrees.
He also doesn't live that close, he had to come down his drive, cross the road and up the road a bit to where I was!

Wings - the grass gets ruined because of the nitrogen in the urine, in a garden dogs tend to wee in the same spots and that causes the problems. Outside they go for different areas depending on interesting smells. Also as she is a toy breed she hardly has any wee, and in the 11.5yrs I have had her she hasn't ruined the grass in our garden.....

These are what you need to prevent grass being spoiled:

My DD has used them for 5 years with her lovely dog, and their lawn is fine - despite being comprehensively wee'd on every day..! Smile

If he approaches you again I would suggest he speaks to the council dog warden, in fact have the number ready for him! By the time they have laughed him off the phone he may have got the message that allowing your dog to wee in a public place is not an offence!

ThatBloodyWoman · 25/02/2014 14:21

What getdownshep said.

I'd make a point of going there every day from now on if it were me.

t3rr3gl35 · 25/02/2014 15:08

Maybe he saw the dog squatting, thought it was having a poo and doesn't want to back down now. I've made that mistake before - given some poor guy a filthy look for letting his dog squat only to notice it was a bitch having a pee. Blush

IMHO, dog wee only unreasonable if the dog is a male lifting it's leg against the front of a car. I've not so fond memories of the dog who used to lift his leg against the air intake of my car every morning - engine fired up, drew air in, much gagging on stale dog piddle from me. Had a word with owner who couldn't get his head around why it was a problem. Hmm I've not felt the love for black labs since. Grin

ILiveInAPineappleCoveredInSnow · 26/02/2014 13:00

Ah I've been back there every day, think he is away as the car isn't there. Might print off the dog warden details for him.
I never let them wee on cars, but they wouldn't reach the air inlet if I did. They love trees though - they spend ages sniffing out the best trees!
