AIBU?

To miss uni on account of feeling 'weird'?

Feeling very odd. An going hot and cold, shaking, have vomited last night and pooed seven times yesterday. Also having very slight spotting. Tummy is 'tingly' and a bit swollen

In many ways, I feel like I'm having a period without the bleeding. I have the mirena so not sure if that can be affecting things, its sitting a lot lower than usual in that I can feel the strings very easily.

Would I be daft to miss my uni class today on account of how I'm feeling? I don't want to eat again incase I'm sick - still feel a bit queasy.. It's just a seminar but there are forty of us and all sit very close together - so if its a bug it'll be flying round the room.

What would you do - take the day off or go and hope for the best?

Yes, infection more likely than pregnancy!

I do wish the GP would phone. If she doesn't ring by 7 not sure whether to wait til tommorow or call NHS tonight.

I had this with my 1st mirena.
I had bad cramps which were like gentle contractions and my coil came out. Afterwards I felt like you. Very unwell and had a sore stomach for weeks. Get antibiotics! I waited a few days and think its why I was so poorly.

Hope you feel better soon

How are you doing? Really hope the GP has phoned.

She did, but at 7.15 and whilst I was in loo :/ she said she'll ring tonmorow. I meanwhile am waiting to be seen at out of hours.

Good luck I hope you manage to get it sorted, I think out of hours is a good decision rather than being uncomfortable all night

Hope you get on okay. I agree with purpleknickers about out of hours.

Doctor said I probably have a stomach bug. She offered an internal but I said I would do it, but have vaginismus and might struggle. She said in that case, best to see if GP can have a look tommorow. She said you can't get vomiting and diarrhoea etc with a period - you bloody well can, I know you can as have had it for over two years..!

Have you got endometriosis? I think you can get those sort of symptoms with endo.

Gynae thinks I probably do but doesn't want to do a laparoscopy as seemingly there's nothing they can gain from it. They said the treatment is a mirena coil and painkillers, which wouldn't change whether they had a confirmed diagnosis or not..

I vomit/have bowel issues like clockwork with my period though - every month, for over two years I am sick usually within 24 hours of my period starting, and have bowel issues for 2/3 days before, plus dizziness, agitation, high fever, hallucinations and sleepiness.

The mirena was supposed to halt all that but doesn't seem to be working :/

That sounds like it could be related to endometriosis, which can certainly be treated with more than the mirena and painkillers. I would ask to see the gynae again in light of how the mirena is affecting you.

How long have you had the mirena? You might need to give it a good six months to improve endometriosis symptoms. It might work really well though- I'd give it a chance before asking for further interventions. Good luck, hope it improves

It's been in four months.

I feel utterly awful. I now cannot leave the bathroom at all :(

Hello

Are you the same poster who periodically posts about this coil and what its doing to you and how ill you are and what you should do aout it>

Report
shouldnthavesaid · 25/02/2014 13:43

Probably. I think there was two of us in the same boat but one of them has had theirs removed.

I have spoken to the GP, three gynaecologists, two other GPs and I just keep getting the same answer - the coil can't make you ill, we won't remove it because apart from it you have no other real option, you haven't given it long enough, etc etc.

Every time I ask they say to give it another month. Was told by February I'd be fine. Now they're saying April. :(

Have you tried seeing the doctor today? You shouldn't be in that much pain from a Mirena coil I have one and apart from cramping to start with no pain at all. I really do think you should see the doctor

I think you should have it removed. It is clearly causing you angst even if it isn't the thing making you ill. See a GP asap if it is the coil something is going very wrong. I've had one for years and had none of that (although I do get period symptoms without the period). Oh and I get funny bowels with my period - always have but not to the extent you are suffering, the Mirena has not stopped that either.

Go to the doctors.

GP phoned - said it's a d and v bug, and just to drink and sleep it off. She suggested she does an internal when she next sees me to see what's going on with it but said it's unlikely it's coming out by itself. Hopefully internal will yield answers.

I still think it's my period, but GP said that's a moo point.

Well moot point or not you were right not to go in yesterday. I thought it's not unheard of for women to find their bodies can reject a Mirena coil? it doesn't mean you won't ever be able to use one again.
