To think its possible to negotiate with webuyanycar.com

ADoorMe · 23/02/2014 14:16

Planning to offload my car to these people.

Thinking that when they tell me their final offer when i go for the appointment, which I'm accepting will be a lot less than the original offer, i can negotiate (as I do for everything else).

AIBU?

Yabu to even consider using them at all. Total rip off. Sell your car privately to get the best price. Or at worst go to an independent garage and haggle.

MuttonCadet · 23/02/2014 14:18

ebay would get better than wbac.com

crispycronut · 23/02/2014 14:22

A total Rip off and they manage to forget to mention theres a 55.00 charge for the bloke who does the admin when you go to your appointment.

Having spent 40 mins filling out endless paperwork you end up accepting the additional charge before you lose the will to live Angry

Have just sold a car to wewillbuyyourcar this week. They offered me more than I was asking for in Autotrader (twice the quote from webuyanycar) and paid me exactly that price after viewing. No hidden charges either. Money in my account less than 15 minutes after their agent viewed.

colleysmill · 23/02/2014 14:25

And actually they don't buy any car - I put our very old car reg in (1959) and it wouldn't recognise it. Not that its for sale but I was curious!

whitedoor · 23/02/2014 14:38

Sold a car with these once a few years ago as we had to get rid quickly. Agreed to the online quote and someone came out to pick it up. Of course out came the clipboard and the phone call to head office, stone chips to the bonnet, not as described etc, wanted to lower the price. My H said politely thanks very much for your time but no, car is exactly as described and I won't be accepting any less than the price agreed, would you like me to call you a taxi? Did the trick and they transferred the full amount.

snoggle · 23/02/2014 14:47

Well you can try but I doubt you'll get far.

We drove 30 miles to take our car to them, having described the car very fairly for the online quote. They then pretty much halved it due to the condition of the paintwork. Which was really very good for a 6 yr old car- a couple of very minor (ie only visible from a certain angle) door dinks. Otherwise perfect. Got much more on autotrader, but annoying waste of time and very rude man. Wouldn't touch with barge pole unless you had no other options.

PPaka · 11/09/2014 20:46

I did negotiate with them, I told them that the chips and scratches were all a bit subjective- e.g a scrape along the door, they counts as 5 scratches.
I told them what I'd accept and he clicked a few +£100, and have me the price I wanted.
They weren't really that professional though, young kids with a bit of attitude.

Rokenswife · 12/09/2014 02:44

LOL they offered me £60 for my car.

So after all their admin bills etc...... A fiver.

lauranorder50 · 12/09/2014 03:43

Yeah, me too. I did their online valuation and I was honest with my description. I was offered fifty quid. The admin fee was.....fifty quid so I would have donated it to them. There was still the cost of the four mile taxi ride home at three quid a mile...yes really.

Basically I offloaded it onto my Dad who paid to have it fixed because by then door locks would not lock. We were moving overseas and cba scrapping it. My Dad sold it for three hundred and fify quid. Probably about what he paid in repairs and MOT costs ! He knew it was junk but agreed to sort it.

I wouldn't go to weripoffanyseller.com again though.

littlejohnnydory · 12/09/2014 18:56

webuyanycar offered 160 for our old banger, which I then sold for 500 within a few hours on ebay.

ZenNudist · 12/09/2014 19:04

Don't do it. I always wonder what kind of mug uses them. The ads on constant rotation on the radio make me laugh 'free online quotation' (we tell you a ridiculously low price which we don't move on except to reduce it).

I suppose they are in the business of convenience. You can certainly try to negotiate but I don't think they do competitive prices.

PPaka · 12/09/2014 19:11

Well I got a price close to what I have seen similar cars advertised for. And £2000 more than a trade in price from the dealership. So I'm happy enough.
It was a good car though, high spec, regularly serviced etc.

TrustMeImLying · 12/09/2014 19:55

I got offered £320 for a car I sold on autotrader for £1100.....

Fairylea · 12/09/2014 20:00

I agree with the first reply.

Don't use. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

My mum's car is worth £250 on there. She just sold it privately for £1200.

thegiraffewiththepurplescarf · 12/09/2014 21:00

I had a great experience with them. Yes they offered less but we negotiated up so that it was only a couple of hundred under the original offer. It was a 4k car.
