To think that if you're going out in public....

You could at least get dressed! AIBU to hate seeing people walking around town/shops in either pjs or onesies? I know some younger people like their onesies but today I went to the hairdressers and out walked a woman (late 50s) in her pj bottoms at 2pm. Shock do these people jump outta bed and just 'not bother' getting dressed or do they pop a onesie/pjs on clean as a form of dressing? Confused. I'm one of those unlucky people who always bumps into boss/work mate/mate from the past etc...when I'm not looking too great I think I'd die if I would bump into the same people and I was sporting a 'Hello Kitty' onesie or an equally tacky Primarni cat/dog/giraffe print onesie/pjs disclaimer I'm not against pjs or onesies inside the home just in public. I'm not bothered by seeing women in pjs/rollers etc, though I was raised in Merseyside Wink I don't really notice what other women are wearing unless I particularly like their outfit.

LurkingCinners · 22/02/2014 21:12

I have seen pjs and onesies worn in public. Maybe I'm getting old and unjudgemental but I really don't care.

My teens have onesies, they love them but don't go out in them. I wouldn't like them as I hate having a zip on a pj. I might get one though for working in my study, it's freezing in there. I would love an owl.

Caitlin17 · 22/02/2014 21:18

Pipbin I've never seen a onesie in either a shop or on a person but from photos they appear to involve a long zip to crotch level. Several posters on here have commented on what a faff they are going to the loo.

I must be missing something but that hardly seems a convenient garment for anyone with physical disabilities, compared to say a pull on sweatshirt and joggers or similar with elasticated waists.

CaffeinatedKitten · 22/02/2014 21:20

My middle child regularly wears his pyjamas/onesie out. It's difficult enough getting him out of the door some days, adding a huge meltdown over clothes into the mix doesn't always appeal >_<

I'd not do it, unless it was the charity stupid jimjam day thing. I am not svelte, my tatty Jammie's wouldn't help change that look:o

YouAreTalkingRubbish · 22/02/2014 21:24

If I see an adult wearing a onesie in a public place I assume they have lost a dare. Confused

persimmon · 22/02/2014 21:25

Adults in public in onesies look
a) slovenly
b) unattractive (unless supermodel gorgeous)

So, why?

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 22/02/2014 21:43

Onesies haven't really made it to this bit of Canada, except as sleepwear for babies and toddlers. It's currently -30 outside with the wind chill and there are still people outside wearing shorts. Looking at their legs, pj bottoms would be welcomed! Many do wear pj bottoms but they are fleece lined.

oakmouse · 22/02/2014 21:44

I wear pj's on Red Nose Day along with my children because it makes them laugh. Alas, I have twice found myself having to be in a public place afterwards...

It isn't that people stare at you. It's the way they don't, IYSWIM....

OohAahBird · 22/02/2014 22:24

I have seen quite a few, we have a corner shop at the end of our road and quite a few people seem to visit in their PJ's but there was an occasion recently that actually had me lol, cause I just couldn't help it, 2 girls wandering down my road at about 11am in full make up, full on 50's era puff ball hair, wearing nighties and floor length pink chiffon type dressing gowns. They looked liked extras from a 50's tv programme. They had obviously spent a while getting ready to go out, just skipped the getting dressed part.

Greenmug · 22/02/2014 22:26

Its quite a new thing isn't it, kind of over the last few years or so. Before that people seemed to manage to get dressed.

OohAahBird · 22/02/2014 22:29

Opps forgot to say why it make me laugh, it was really really windy and they were both struggling to keep themselves decent and were having a right laugh at the dilemma, the whole situation struck me as something out of a comedy sketch.

MintChocAddict · 22/02/2014 22:44

Lazy feckers the lot of them.
I once had the misfortune to walk behind two girls in the street. Both with hoodies, jammy bottoms and fake Uggs. How long would it have taken to pull on a pair of jeans over the jammies. 5 seconds at most?
The worst part was that they clearly had no underwear on and their combined arses looked like they were chewing a huge bag of toffees. Disclaimer - I have nothing against big arses - mine is certainly not tiny but I try and hold it together with first of all - a pair of hawd me in pants and secondly - some trousers. Jeez - how hard can it be???
I also regularly see a mum walking her daughter to school in big coat, jammy bottoms and flip flops. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

Blockette · 22/02/2014 23:04

I went to the corner shop in my pj bottoms the other day.

38 weeks pregnant everything hurts and hardly any of my clothes fit, so you can go to hell if you think I'm putting slightly too small trousers on just to get milk.

IneedAsockamnesty · 23/02/2014 00:54

caitlin

You can also get ones with a pocket to make going to the loo easier as well as having zips extended. Can be put on in one hit from the legs up so require limited upper body movement and minimal leg movement no twisting

They can be great for someone with extreme sensory issues because of the uniform fabric texture and no gaps no buttons ect no waist bands.

They require no colour matching so no putting together an outfit no choices needed to be made.

They are not tight or restrictive and seams can be dealt with very easily and they are baggy enough to cover weighted therapy aids

MsAspreyDiamonds · 23/02/2014 06:35

I had the misfortune of standing behind a woman going up the escalator with a bum skimming skater skirt, v thin 10 denier tights & a thong. It was horrific, people have no self awareness when it comes to getting dressed.

I regularly see women do the school run in their onesies, I would be really embarrassed to be seen out in my onesie if I had one. Grin

Longdistance · 23/02/2014 06:46

Yanbu.

When we lived in Oz, people used to walk around shops with bare feet. To top it off, they wore onesies too.
