...to wonder how people work from home.

So it's half term and as a teacher I'm off work, as is DH. We have no DC. I have been planning on getting some school work done, but so far I have done nothing because I've been titting around on MN and wandering off into town to drink coffee.
Honestly, how do people do it?

I sit down at my desk. Turn the computer on. And work :-)

I hear you. I've worked from home as an office worker and as a self-employed person and I just don't have the motivation. I now know it's just not a realistic thing for me to do, it doesn't suit my personality. I need the separation of home and work to be physical, and to have other people (colleagues) around to motivate me. Doesn't mean I'm lazy, far from it - I work just fine in an office - just means I'm crap at working from home! DH is the same.

I have deadlines and I only get paid for work that I complete. I love working from home, I'm much more productive and it's much more relaxing than going out of the house to work. And the bonuses include having no travel costs or childcare costs because the DC are now at school and I can work round that. Although I have deadlines I can do the work at any time.

My day goes something like write a report, put the washing on, write a couple of reports, hang washing out, pop to shops, write a couple of reports, prep for dinner, etc. I do a different job 3 days a week going out to work and doing all the housy stuff when I get home kills me. It doesn't help that I don't like that job but it's only until I get enough hours working from home.
