There's a theory I went in some chick-lit that you never REALLY get over your first major teen crush (some may call it love, it's definitely infatuation) as your body has never had to deal with that level of hormone hit before. Your poor little brain is overwhelmed.

I stalk look at my old teen crushes (apart from my old unrequited love P) on FB now and wonder what the hell I was thinking. Presumably they were a lot more cute at 12 before obesity, alcoholism, EDL-tendencies or major facial tattoos got in their way.
