DH's god-daughter staying, and I'm worried about the effect on my kids...

DH's god-daughter is staying with us for a while during her travels (she is from Australia).

She is perfectly pleasant, but I'm worried about a couple of things:

She spends a lot of time talking about dieting and I'm worried about the effect on DD (11). We try to encourage a healthy attitude to food, and DD has started refusing high-carb food.

She walks around wearing tiny nighties and vest tops, or wrapped in a small towel and nothing else, which is fine, except that DS2 (13) is at that age where he is all testosterone.

She is encouraging DS1 (17) to take a gap year, which is not something I want him to do on impulse.

WIBU to subtly encourage her to move on by telling her that Scotland is a must-see and buying her train ticket to Edinburgh?

I'd just go with the flow, sounds like you're a bit outnumbered to me.

Binkyridesagain · 19/02/2014 21:36

Watch out you could be Outnumbered on this one OP.

Honeybear30 · 19/02/2014 21:37

What a lot of effort you've gone to write that all out OP...you have my admiration. Indeed I'm sure you will be outnumbered very soon...

moonshinestar2 · 19/02/2014 21:38

oh gee that sounds like a toughie, i'd ship her off to Edinburgh if i were you - Stoke doesn't really float many australian boats..

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/02/2014 21:38

:o it's ben you need to watch

Finola1step · 19/02/2014 21:40

Tell her that she really should travel around Scotland. And soon. Before prices start going up what with the Commonwealth Games. Make sound really important and how gutting it would be if she misses out.

Oh and the towel thing. Give her a bigger towel. The biggest one you have in the house. Buy a massive bath sheet if need be. Insist she uses it.

Funnyfoot · 19/02/2014 21:41

Have you tried ummmm talking to her?

I know that's a way out there idea but give it a go you never know it may work and is a little less harsh than bunging her ass on a train to Scotland.

Also I honestly would not feel the slightest bit jealous green with envy and spitting feathers to have a young, slim, sun kissed, well travelled and nice girl in my home Grin

Finola1step · 19/02/2014 21:42

I think you got me one this one. If still buy that massive bath sheet just in case.

Does DS1 not have any testosterone issues? Smile. Lots of sheet washing going on in your household, ThreeBee?

ThreeBeeOneGee · 19/02/2014 21:44

FunnyFoot: I have tried taking her aside to have a quiet word.

And......... she didn't listen?
Could get what you meant?
Wore a smaller towel?

Funnyfoot · 19/02/2014 21:46

Couldn't

dollymixedup · 19/02/2014 21:47

In all seriousness just talk to her, I'm assuming she's of the age where her impact on others just won't of entered her mind. Hopefully she'll be "stoked" that you see her as an influential grown up.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 19/02/2014 21:47

Tbh she doesn't seem to get it.

Oops, cross-posting.

Chippednailvarnish · 19/02/2014 21:50

Well she is fucking annoying.

My sympathies.

jedishelly1 · 19/02/2014 21:50

;-)

Ok try this

Pretty Auzzie vixen

You know how much we love having you stay with us and it is great for the kids but I do need to lay a few boundaries down, you will understand when you have your own DC's.

  1. Could you please ensure you are wearing clothes when you outside of the bedroom/bathroom. DS 1 & 2 have a constant boner due to the fact you are either always in a teeny tiny towel or some vest top that doesn't leave a lot to the imagination.

  2. We are a very health conscious family and promote healthy eating in this house. We do not discuss fat beating diets at every meal. I do not what DD at such a young age to become an anorexic. We as the adults in her life have a responsibility to ensure she has a healthy attitude.

  3. I love the fact that travelling around the world for you was the greatest choice and I can see the benefits. We would however ask you not to encourage this path with DC 1. We as his parents believe he should make informed choices by himself. We present all options to him to support him to have a balanced view. By constantly discussing the benefits of a gap year with him and overlooking the other options available you are going against our parenting. Please stop.

Do you understand Auzzie vixen?

No well here's a little gift, its a 1 way ticket to Scotland. Don't worry about packing I kindly sorted it for you. Your bags are by the door and your taxi is outside.

That's perfect! I knew Mn would save the day.

Now I just need to gently let DS2 know that he can't sing, despite being given the lead in the school musical.

Oh, and get the printer to work.

OP posts:
Funnyfoot · 19/02/2014 22:08

Ok

It the printer many times while telling it "you are a piece of shit and unless you work I will throw you in the bin and buy a HP laser scanner!"
Works for me.

DS 2

"Wow son you are the lead in the school play that's amazing. It's a musical you say?"
"I know why don't we record you singing so you can make sure you have the correct melody and pitch". (Most non singer me included sound crap when recorded)

"Yes DS 2 you are correct it doesn't sound that great. You can either decline the part or work on your acting skills and become so good that nobody notices you sing like a strangled badger".

I fucking hate outnumbered.
Just thought I'd put that out there

Lj8893 · 19/02/2014 22:16

I was never a fan before, but for some reason I started watching this series and I'm loving it!
