To think I could have prevented DD's silent reflux & fussiness by taking vitamins?

My 9 month old DD had silent reflux and has recently been diagnosed with cows milk allergy.

She is generally very very fussy. She cried a lot when younger, only slept on my chest etc and wanted to be held a lot. Since the past 4 months, she wakes up every hour at night.

My dad who she's met a few times told me that she was 'weak' because I probably didn't eat well during pregnancy and take vitamins.

I did eat well (or thought I did) but I couldn't take vitamins as it affected by digestive system, and I couldn't tolerate them. Midwives were aware and didn't seem concerned.

Had I taken the vitamins would my DD have been a happier baby? Hmm

I took vitamins and my dd had reflux and was a terrible sleeper. Do not feel bad!

Apart from the vits being meant for you, they are mostly rubbish, don't do any good and perhaps do damage.

Your dad is being silly and didnt think before opening his mouth. Hope it gets better with your dd soon.

DS1 has various allergies including cows milk. He's not weak, and very rarely ill. I don't think anything triggered it in particular. There's mild allergies in the family, but none for food. It's one of those things. I struggled to swallow vitamins and force them down, but that didn't stop him reaching a substantial birth weight.

He's being very unreasonable. Hope it settles down now it's been identified.

Could you blame his genes?

No there is nothing you could have done.
Reflux is caused mainly be immaturity in the digestive system - babies grow out of it. Fussiness is a big sign of reflux, it's nothing to do with being weak.
My DS is five months old and has awful silent reflux that we medicate. I took vitamins and ate well throughout the pregnancy.
Just smile and nod and such stupid opinions. Motherhood is guilt ridden enough without blaming yourself for stuff that is completely out of your control.

Thanks so much everyone! I was so upset by his comment. It's hard enough as it is, why can't people just be sympathetic ...
