To wonder if socks for babies are a stupid idea?

Whenever my LO wears a romper suit (as usually we only wear onsies with feet and without) and she wears socks I'm forever pulling them up!!!
Is it me or are baby socks unreasonable?
What other unreasonable baby items are there?

new to have never heard of top b and tail bowls despite having 2 kids? Grin yanbu op tights and trousers with feet are the way forward.

BackforGood · 19/02/2014 13:11

Yes, but teeny weeny lickle socks are just SO cute - I can't help buying them when a friend has a baby Grin

I Used to put my boy in tights under his trousers as the only way to keep them on (don't think 'sock ons' had been invented then)

enormouse · 19/02/2014 13:13

For DS1, I was bought sock ons as he would remove them at will. I'm sure most the ones I got him are littering Belfast.

For DS2, I've since discovered h and m socks which are lovely, thick and soft and do stay on. Unfortunately, DS1 now removes them for him.

KhloeKardashian · 19/02/2014 13:15

They were continually removed by my children when they were babies.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 19/02/2014 13:17

Agreed socks are a waste of time. And Sock-Ons say remove when the baby is sleeping - er, why?!

Went from footed babygros to Moccasins - much toastier, grippy and stay on better. Moc-ons (the same company) were best.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 19/02/2014 13:17

And then Gap socks once they're walking as they stay up and have rubber bits on the bottom for anti-slip

HellomynameisIcklePickle · 19/02/2014 13:20

Jojo maman sell crawler bottoms which are great

Mrs4561 · 19/02/2014 13:36

Ds has always had gap socks and I've never had a problem with them falling off. I just bought loads of plain white ones with the grippy bits underneath, so when one enevitably got lost it didn't matter as they were all the same!

Hawkmoth · 19/02/2014 13:39

Socks over babygros here!

Chwaraeteg · 19/02/2014 13:40

Another vote for sock ons from me. They are amahzzing. I didn't know you had to take them off when the bambino is asleep though? Must be something yo do with restricted blood flow.

No idea how you keep shoes on a baby but why on earth would you need to?

To the person who asked why baby clothes have pockets; my boyfriend says that it's so they can keep all their bots and Bob's they need to go about their IMPORTANT BABY BUSINESS!

Thurlow · 19/02/2014 13:43

I could sell Sock-Ons on QVC. I really could. Single best invention for babies.

HavantGuard · 19/02/2014 14:30

Surely if those 'socks on' things are tight enough to keep socks on they're tight enough to damage their feet?

HazleNutt · 19/02/2014 14:31

Unreasonable baby items - most of them. You know, adding "baby" to any item will inflate the price about 3 times. It's like "wedding". But it's a baby cup/bowl/muslin/bag/towel/chest of drawers!! Of course you can't buy the ordinary, less expensive exactly the same looking item!

needtobediscreet · 19/02/2014 14:40

No Havant - they work due to the design not because they are so tight.

KonkeyDong · 19/02/2014 14:42

Tights are the future.

notso · 19/02/2014 16:16

Sock-ons turned my babies fat feet purple and tights under trousers are too many layers.

I think parasols are unreasonable. All that adjusting every 2 mins and they get in the way of people when it's busy or just fall off randomly. PITA

Gingeroo · 19/02/2014 16:21

My son likes to pull his socks off and eat them. He saw sock ons as an additional challenge which made the sock pulling off game more fun.

Pascha · 19/02/2014 16:28

Ds1 never once pulled his socks off as a baby. Ds2 could rip sock-ons off and throw them across the room.

needtobediscreet · 19/02/2014 16:41

notso - I agree on parasols. just buy a pram or buggy with a decent hood, get a snoozeshade or just use a muslin and some pegs!! :)

ginger and pascha - sock ons weren't a universal cure for my son who managed to get round them in his more determined moments!! lol!

muppetthecow · 19/02/2014 16:49

Baby socks are useless as socks, but they're much better scratch-mits than actual scratch-mits Grin

We use mocc-ons instead of sock-ons as a) both DS's have massively fat wide feet, b) they keep DS2's feet warm when he's in the sling, and c) he can't pull them off yet

QueenStromba · 19/02/2014 17:16

That really tickled me too falulah!

HavantGuard · 19/02/2014 17:23

Ok. I am confused as the advice to remove them when the baby is sleeping would suggest they are restrictive/tight.

Zzzzmarchhare · 19/02/2014 18:23

I am now imagining someone going on dragons den with a top and tail bowel- 1 side shaped like a head the other like a bum?
The dragon with 5 kids would probably invest..

whatsgoinon · 19/02/2014 19:55

Tights if it is cold

Socks if not, all the fun of baby taking them off and all the lovely toes to play with once they do!
