To really really want my own swimming pool

No, I probably can't afford it but..... Maybe with some clever financial planning and if we sacrifice holidays, nights out, non-essential clothes, Chinese takeaways and all things frivolous..... It might be possible. Maybe I could start a neighbourhood swimming pool co-op?!

I've always wanted a swimming pool in the garden since I can remember, even better if it came in one of those log cabin type buildings! I just want to wake up and literally take a running jump...!

Does anyone know how much it costs to maintain a pool after the initial outlay of having one built?

That hidden pool is spectacular though isn't it. Sooo cool.

We are currently looking at the possibility of an Endless pool being installed in our double garage. We intend to convert the garage so it can accommodate the largest pool. The people at Endless Pools have given me a local contact. This all hinges on us getting planning permission to build a double garage on land at the front of the house. We intend to get a planning application in by Easter but I'm scared of telling the neighbours. Sometimes I change my mind and think is it worth it but I know we will use it. The endless pool is cheaper and easier to run. Whenever There's a design programme on TV they usually go with an endless pool.

We used to have an Endless Pool. OH convinced me it was a cheap way of having a pool you could swim in...then went overboard and built a conservatory for it, with underfloor heating, sunk it in the ground and lined it with (gorgeous) marble tiles! It was very beautiful but in the end he never bothered swimming in it either. However the house did sell on the day it went on the market to the first person who saw it so you never know.

Now we live in the south of France where we have a very cheap, above ground pool - a lot safer for children and dogs. It's quite warm here, but we still need to heat it a bit and use it April to October, in the summer every evening after work which is really nice.

Oh that pool porn was incredible. Pool porn combined with property porn.

Even my son was going on about pools today.

Endless pool with hot tub...

I live in Egypt & lots of my friends have villas with pools.

I've said no, because our compound also has a big pool (serves all 250 properties) & 5 small pools for the individual 'areas' of 40-60 villas.

I get our 'area' pool pretty much to myself between October & April - yes, it's brrrrr, but it's not swimming in the Serpentine in the UK.

The garden pools on offer are just too small for doing a proper 2k swim. Cheap to maintain though - friends pay approximately double to the gardener to also look after pool. Roughly £80 per month rather than £40 for garden alone.

I'd suggest moving somewhere hot, OP. Grin. Pools overseas very usual & affordable. UK just doesn't have the climate for it!

I had a house in Florida with pool and it was expensive to heat and even there you needed heating apart from the really hot months.
We use to keep it covered with a blanket between use to keep the heat in.
If you've plenty of money go for it.
Had a hot tub as well.
