to think my cats have actually fucked off and are total bastards?

I am due next week and we have two toddlers already

We moved to a new house 2 months ago. Cats had previously been indoors but now we have a bit of a garden we thought it might be nice to let them outside. Firstly, it was a couple weekends for a few hours and they came in. Then the past couple of days they have gone out all day without coming past the house to check we are still letting them in (which they did at first).

Yesterday they were basically gone all day but around evening time both cats came past the house and wouldn't come in when I tried to get them in. And then wandered off (they were each on their own they aren't hanging out together).

Anyway dinner time came passed dh was getting seriously freaked out we were calling for them and looking around the garden etc. They never came home last night.

Today both cats have still not shown their faces I left food out for them and nothing. We have a glass door and large windows form garden to living room, I know if they are around.

So here is my thing, if the cats are traveling separately and yesterday both seemed totally uninterested in coming home..does that mean that they have actually just fucked off? Because it's unlikely they would both be hit by a car at the same time? Or be poisoned etc as they have both been out on previous occasions and all there are several "neigborhood cats" in the area who seem to get on fine. I feel like I would be more concerned if only one came home ifyswim?

we do have hazards obviously the street near us but it's residential and fairly quiet so we would know if they had been hit.

Secondly there is a train track behind our fence which is pretty busy. But I also think cats would be able to feel vibrations and get off it. And again I don't think it was likely they would be together.

Part of me thinks that the cats sense the impending baby and have just buggered off because of that. They have struggled with the previous two so I think it's a strong possibilty But dh thinks they have been hurt.

What do you think?

Now, see!

My bastards cats get into all sorts of scrapes - because they are bad boys.

They'll learn! Grin

When I first started letting mine out I made sure I only did it when they were hungry - guaranteed they would be back soon Grin I also always called their names when I fed them, even feeding them at random times of the day so they knew the call meant food. Finally whenever they came in they got a bit of food (even just 2 bits of kibble) so coming indoors was always appealing.

If they've always been indoors, outdoors will be v exciting but also a bit scary - so getting stuck in a garage but then not wanting to come in. Cats can also be v weird about doors. Feliway can work wonders here!

Age 9 mine would rather not go out much but they are still capable of playing up if they have other priorities - ended up chasing one round the garden only last week. Cats like to keep you on your toes Smile

Hehe, my cat when she was a kitten once got stuck in the garage for a whole weekend. poor thing. you will have several of these incidents with outdoor cats - one of mine was missing for a week before I put up posters. A few hours after me putting up posters he came home, happy as nothing had happened.

They probably will get used to it soon, and you will get to know how long they can be away for before you need to worry. We have different time scales on all 3 cats for when they "should" drop by, as they all have different habits! Cat flap is very handy - sometimes cats come to the door, decides they can't get in and just leave again.

HazleNutt · 18/02/2014 19:51

cats will do that for you. We have 3, and one regularly goes wandering. She must get fed somewhere, as she has been away for more than a week sometimes. Every time we think that this is it and she's gone now, there she is..

Get a cat flap though, cats will be much more relaxed when they know they can get in and out at any time.

This is maybe verging on crazy-cat-lady, but when i moved house i got tracker tags for my cats collars. The range isn't great, but its a bit of piece of mind that i'd be able to trck them down if they did get lost.

Glad they are back!

fay that's a good idea. We can't afford it now, but I'm researching it.. look what I found.. this doesn't track your cat.. it's a camera Grin Confused

At least I would have known they were inside a garage!

Love the catcam! I've been tempted to rig up my go pro camera onto my cats, but they'd find a way to lose it, guaranteed. Would be so interesting though.

ReadyToPopAndFresh · 18/02/2014 22:35

You'd think it would be interesting..but it would probably just be your cat looking all pathetic and begging for dinners round all the neighbors! Grin
