Am I being stupid to wonder where people keep all their shoes?

Aibu to think that shoe storage is an actual problem?

I don't think I've got an excessive amount of shoes, but there definitely isn't space in the bottom of the wardrobe, there isn't a single shoe rack big enough, and where do you put shoe racks anyway? In a cupboard? Haven't got the space.

Have most people got a proper place for their shoes, or are everyone else shoved here and there around the house like mine?

Currently being worn shoes are on a rack by the front door. Might be worn shoes are in wicker basket in bedroom. Definitely not being worn shoes (sandals, snow boots, ballet shoes, tap shoes, posh shoes for going out) are under the bed in a plastic box. Welles are by the back door in a big crate. Crocs are by the kitchen door for going out to the washing line and wood shed.

I have converted an old built in airing cupboard in my bedroom into a shoe cupboard. I removed the original shelves and filled it with stackable shoe racks. I have about 35 pairs. Those I wear every day like work shoes are kept in the hall cupboard.

I have loads of shoes. Some are on a rack in corner of my room. Recently went to Poundstretchers & bought several 'pop up ' canvas clothes storage hampers. Theyre round shaped and have a lid so you cant see whats in them, £2.99 each, and you can colour co-ordinate them with your room. Ive transferred all my shoes into them still in boxes/wrapped. Its nice as theyre out of the way. Much tidier, and I was fed up of tripping over shoes

My ex sister in law had a shoe closet bigger than most dorm rooms with over 500 pairs of shoes. She spent thirteen years in school uniform, so don't worry that school uniforms mean girls don't develop taste...

On a shoe rack in down stairs toilet. Sumner shoes are in plastic tub on shelf in wardrobe.

missnevermind · 17/02/2014 00:44

We have a five foot bookshelf in the hall with all 'currently worn' shoes in it.
Their are 6 of us and sometimes 8
The rest of MY shoes are in crate sized boxes in my wardrobes. The kids the same, just no crates. ????

I have an under bed storage thingy. I don't have that many pairs of shoes really (after a recent purge of ones that were worn out, damaged or didn't fit well) about 3 pairs of heels, 3 pairs of flats and 2 pairs of trainers (one pair for outside and one for the gym).

I have a ridiculous amount of shoes and the storage of them (along with my coat and bag collection) is a real problem. I'm not even that into fashion, they are mostly hiking style shoes, coats and bags. At the moment the coats are stored at the top of my wardrobe. Bags and shoes are packed into boxes in the spare room until we have some storage built. Goodness knows where they will go if our family grows ...

wonkylegs · 17/02/2014 08:00

We have footwear all over the place. My main bugbear is DHs shoes which he abandons all over the place and at a size 12 they are a serious trip hazard.

lastnightIwenttoManderley · 17/02/2014 08:03

Just two of us in our house and under stairs cupboard has full height shelves for shoes - i like to see them!

I've probably got about 25 pairs in all, inc work heels, evening shoes, walking boots, flats etc. Try and keep it as lean as possible - i have size 2 feet so the shoes i do have tend to be on the pricey side which helps regulate the numbers.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 17/02/2014 08:15

DH has just built me a shoe rack to fit into my built in wardrobe. It's in the garage waiting to be painted. I think my paltry 15-20 pair collection will all fit into it. They are all in clear boxes from Lakeland.

I will post a picture if I can.

Envy At the online database though. I want.

EarlGreyCuppa · 17/02/2014 09:01

CorusKate I use an app on my phone called Memento Database, slightly customised so that I can have thumbnail pictures of my shoes, categorised by colour, brand etc. Grin I'm sure you could use it to store various info but..

For my books, I use an app called Book Catalogue. It enables you to scan barcodes to enter the book's details.

Both apps are free on android.

We have one of those big ikea wicker lidded hampers in the hall and all the shoes get thrown in there. I'm not a shoe person though. I have snow boots and plain black boots for winter, Clark's men's sandals for summer and some flat black things. I like coats though :)

MrsBucketxx · 17/02/2014 09:07

I ave a shoe rack in the downstairs loo, and a shoe wheel for the rest it lives in the wardrobe. I have lots

HerGraciousMajTheBeardedPotato · 17/02/2014 09:10

When we installed our ikea Pax wardrobes, we had space to fit them forward of the wall. So we cut away most of the back panel and attached Ikea bookcases to the back of the wardrobes before pushing the whole 'unit' up against the wall.

When we push the hanging clothes to one side we have almost floor-to-ceiling shelf space. Mine is occupied mostly by shoes. Dh's is about 1/4 shoes. The rest is bed linen and spare space.

And we have a shoe rack by the front door for all the day-to-day shoes. Plus a load of hiking boots o the floor of another wardrobe.

londonrach · 17/02/2014 09:11

In the cupboard on shelves beneath the coats. I have smart work shoes, trainers x2 (one almost too wore out and will be thrown, the other is the new one), 2x boots (black and brown), 1 x long black boot, walking boots, 1 x summer shoe and 1 x slippers. Wish my clothes were so organised..... Thats more of a storage problem as we rent and apart from the hall cupboard dont have any others....
