To not want to read threads that are just one long post

Paragraphs people! This may sound awful however, when I open a new thread if it's just one continuous piece of writing I ditch it.

Don't folk know it's so much easier to read if you paragraph your essays?

I agree. I read for a but if it seems serious and a situation I feel I have personal experience on. Otherwise, I skip it.

Yanbu, I also just don't bother reading after a few lines.

Then just don't read it.

No thread is compulsory. The op will probably rub along without your opinion.

If I don't see more than one paragraph on my iPhone screen when using the app I don't bother reading, I just hit the back button.

Yep - there's been a couple lately that I just could NOT read because it all blurred into itself an they were looooooooooong. I don't bother and am surprised that some people do.

I stop reading posts that say 'would of' and 'could of' as well (it gives me the rage)

I rarely read any long posts, paragraphs or not. I skip past all the long ones within a thread too.

I don't read anything that has more than about 40 responses.

That's how I missed so many threads people quote when they are trying to prove they are long standing members

If a paragraph is required it should be there. If it isn't it shouldn't. Some paragraphs are long by virtue of the fact that a new paragraph isn't needed after every few sentences. It is needed when there is change in substance.

If the poster cant be bothered to split the post into manageable chunks it just looks impenetrable and I wont read it.

Same goes for long blow by blow 'he said she said' accounts, it just becomes an unreadable dirge

Yup, same for missing fullstops or grammar which is so bad I can barely understand what the OP is saying. Just because it's a forum, it doesn't mean you should abandon all writing and grammar rules.

Unfortunately, many people do not know grammar or punctuation. Even those who do may get it wrong.

The other day I read a post which included "would have (or of, grammar?)". Made me feel a little sad that a person actually had the correct grammar, but was so surrounded by poor grammar that she doubted herself.

grammar no couldn't give a crap as long as it makes enough sense to understand. paragraphs yes unless the post is desperate or sad and then wouldn't want to ignore for that reason.

I dislike posters who use the word 'people' as you have, OP. Also ones who post about other people's grammar/spelling/post construction. Who cares what you or anybody else thinks of it?

What Pagwatch said, 'popped up a little'... if your poor eyes/brain can't manage to decipher a post then really, don't bother. There will be others who can and will.

I wonder why some people don't see the need to put paragraphs in their posts?

Perhaps non paragraph users are people who don't have a problem with reading large unbroken blocks of text?

Perhaps some people don't use paragraphs because when they started their post they were unaware it was going to be analysed and dissected by the MN examining board for acceptable use of English...

Quite amusing that there is at least one mistake in almost all of the posts from people criticising others on this thread. All of which I'd consider more serious "mistakes" than not using paragraphs correctly.
