Can't sleep so reading. I just started a new book and one of the first characters is called Chynna, female character.

How do you say it? China, Chin-ah, Shy-na, another way?

It's annoying and distracting me from what seems like a good book.

Anyone know. Thanks.

I’d say China

This Chynna pronounces it China.

China, but it would spoilt the book for me too, I hate names like that.

Turn off the sub-vocalisation and it doesn't matter how it is pronounced.

With that spelling it should be pronounced "chin-ah"- so that's what it would be in my head!

YouStayClassySanDiego · 16/02/2014 09:18

I'd pronounce it as Chinna.

Chyn sounds like Lynn.

Carabos I find it very difficult to ignore names that are unpronounceable or where I'm not sure of the pronunciation. It shouldn't matter but it does.

TickerSpecs · 16/02/2014 11:50

I had been thinking it was Shy-na or more Shine-nah with the 2 n's. So good to know it China.

I hate it when a book has names I'm not sure about and find it really distracting.

Thanks for your responses.
